A Note from Mrs. Gray

I hope you all had a fun and restful fall break!

The Fall break is the mark of the end of the 1st quarter. Grades should be up to date in Canvas as of the end of the day on Monday, so please take time to check your child's grades so you are aware of their current progress.

If you are uncertain of how to check grades in Canvas, I encourage you to visit our school website for parent Canvas access information. The button below this post will take you to the page.

Please make contact with teachers if you have questions or concerns about how to help your child improve their learning.

We had lots of exciting activities going on for our short week before Fall break. Check out some highlights in the photos below.

ELA & Social Studies Paired Project

7th grade ELA and Social Studies classes paired up for a project involving historical topics presented in the ELA novel The Watsons Go To Birmingham. The final project presentation involved a gallery walk where students were given the opportunity to share a presentation on their chosen topic. Topics included The Lunch Counter Sit-Ins, Jim Crow Laws, The 16th Street Bombing, and Bloody Sunday just to name a few. These students did such great work on these presentations and even had a google form to fill out to document their learning as they explored topics from peers.

6th grade participated in a unique experience by being able to hear a presentation from Archaeologist, Mr. Strickert. He shared authentic experiences and intriguing photos with students and answered their many questions.

Solar Ovens in Science

7th grade students all participated in building a solar oven. Students spent time researching a design for a solar oven, brought in materials, and then assembled the ovens either in groups or individually. Students placed the ovens outside and measured the internal temperature after being out in the sun for a couple hours. Students enjoyed the smores "cooked" inside the ovens.
