Under The Blood Red Sun
By: Graham Salisbury
Summery
It starts off with a kid and his name is Tomi. he is Japanese, and he lives in Hawaii with his grandfather, mother, father, and sister kimi. One day Billy, Tomi's friend and Tomi went to a baseball diamond to practice, then suddenly a plane flies right over the diamond, and Tomi knows that it is a Japanese fighter plain. After the plane flies over the diamond more were coming behind. When Tomi and billy were running back to the house, the ground shook, and black smoke erupted into the air.
Theme
The theme is what matters is what's in the inside that counts not the outside. You can't choose if you are black or white, American or Japanese, in the book, Tomi's family is from Japan, and Tomi is friends with an American, but they don't judge if one is a different skin color than the other
Author's job
I think that the author didnt do a good job explaining what happened during the bombing, on history.com it says that the barrage lasted a couple hours, and in the book, it seemed like it was about 5-10 minutes.
research
The Japanese plan was simple: Destroy the Pacific Fleet so the Americans wouldn't be able to fight back as Japan’s armed forces spread across the South Pacific. During the battle nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight enormous battleships, and more than 300 airplanes. More than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and another 1,000 were wounded.
