Sixth Grade Newsletter
March 17, 2019
Dear Parents,
Thursday is a half-day. Students will be dismissed at 11:20 for Spring Break.
School resumes on Tuesday, April 2.
Band Update
There will be full band on the 20th.
March is Reading Month
We encourage students to continue reading through Spring Break. Final reading slips can be turned in April 2.
English
Theme papers on A Long Walk to Water are due Monday, March 18. This week we will examine the characters from the story and write poems based on their experiences.
We will NOT have our usual grammar/vocabulary quiz on Friday due to the shortened week.
Enrichment Writing
Math
Last week, students finished up Chapter 7 with identifying equivalent equations. After reviewing for the test, students took the chapter 7 test. There will be a retake on this if necessary on Wednesday/Thursday. Students also started Chapter 8 on Friday. Assignments that are due on Monday: page 411(2-14)/page412(1-6) & page 425(2-8) & page 426(1-6).
This week in math, students will continue with Chapter 8 and learn about solving equations. They will be writing equations, modeling addition and subtraction equations, and solving addition and subtraction equations.
Enrichment Math
Last week, students learned about slope-intercept form. This week, they will continue to learn about slope and graphing equations.
Social Studies
Science
Students took their Plate Tectonics Test Friday. We will spend this week getting assignments caught up and go over grades. We will also do some Science Challenges this week that work on problem solving skills and teamwork.
