Charger Check-In
February 22, 2024
A Note from Ms. Owens
On Wednesday, we had two more members join our administrative team at St. Catherine! Our new principal, Ms. E, and our new assistant principal, Mr. K, did a superb job of visiting classrooms, giving Charge Cards to deserving students, making school-wide announcements over the PA, helping collect daily attendance folders and supervising students during recess and lunch. Mr. K, who is in our 4-year-old program, counted out worship aides in groups of 25 for our classrooms! (Super impressive!) Ms. E was over-the-moon excited to help recite the Our Father over the PA as part of our afternoon prayers! They kept Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Omiecinski, Ms. Hanrahan and me on our toes the entire day. It was great fun!
There are volunteer opportunities for both students and adults at the two remaining St. Catherine Fish Frys.
For the past several years, all schools in the Chicago Archdiocese have participated in the 5 Essentials Survey from the University of Chicago. Three core stakeholder groups are asked to respond to this survey: school families, classroom teachers and students in 4th-8th grade. (A parental opt-out form will be going home in next week's white envelope.) This feedback is a signicant source of information used in crafting our Continuous School Improvement Plan. I'm asking that each school family take the time to complete this survey. Thank you for your partnership.
Our third trimester will begin on Monday, March 4. In accordance with the policy listed in the Parent-Student Handbook, we will pause academic eligibility for the first three weeks of the trimester. The rationale for this is because, at the start of any marking period, a student who misses a single assignment or who earns a low grade on a single assignment can end up with a failing grade.
- We will resume reviewing grades for academic eligibility on Thursday, March 28 (which is Holy Thursday).
- Any students in 4th-8th grades with an F will be notified of their probationary status.
- If that failing grade is still in place on Thursday, April 11, the student will be ineligible to participate in any and all extra-curricular activities until the following Thursday.
A Bit More News...
- The second trimester will end on Thursday, February 29. Report cards and social growth reports will be sent home on Thursday, March 7.
- S&T order forms will go home in next week's white envelope. They are due back to school on Tuesday, March 12 and vouchers will go home on Thursday, March 14.

Our Chargers had so much fun kicking off this year's Kids Heart Challenge (KHC) program for the American Heart Association! St. Catherine has set a big goal to be part of the Nation of Lifesavers by getting 50% of our student body to participate. Can we count on you to join us?
Your student will receive this awesome wristband just for joining the SCA team for the KHC program.
