Simple Machines
In class we have been talking about simple machines. There are actually six machines and they are lever, wheel and axle, inclined plane, wedge, screw and pulley. All these machines are in our daily life and if we didn't have them the Egyptians wouldn't be able to build the pyramids.
Lever
A lever is a rigid bar that rotates around a fixed point. There are three classes of lever. The first class is when the fulcrum is between the load and effort. Second class is when the fulcrum at one end, load at the one end and effort in the middle. The last class is when the fulcrum at one end, load at one end and effort in the middle.
Wheel and Axle
A wedge is when something change the force from moving downward to moving outward.
Inclined Plane
Inclined Plane is a simply a tilted surface; the steeper the slope the more effort it takes to push/pull something up.
