Message from Superintendent Mike Johnson

Dear CSD Families,

I hope you’ll enjoy reading our last CSD40 Update of 2021 — what a year it has been and what a difference 12 months can make!

Throughout 2021, I have been incredibly proud of staff, students, and families as you negotiated the changes required to shift from distance learning to our current in-person instruction — demonstrating courage and resilience each step of the way. To see students and teachers connect and engage in person once again has been the best gift one could ask for.

This week, Creswell rallied together to generously extend gifts and gratitude to our students and staff. These gestures of kindness from hundreds of family and community members are overwhelming, underscoring the power of giving and providing a valuable affirmation of the importance of staff's work. The cards and notes you shared brought tears to eyes, reminded our employees about the lasting impact of their efforts, and meant more than you can imagine.

Our partnership with families and the community is a strong one. Thank you for your ongoing support and all you’ve done to assist our students and schools this year. Whether reading, volunteering, donating, organizing, driving, cheering, serving, or supporting students -- both at home and at school – you play an important role and we are grateful for your involvement.

I look forward to seeing students when classes resume on Monday, January 3, 2022. Until then, I wish you and yours a happy holiday season! For those of you who are traveling, I bid you safe travels to and fro.

Sincerely,
Mike Johnson
Superintendent

Oregon Teacher & Education Support Professional of the Year nominations are open

The Oregon Teacher of the Year program honors excellence in teaching and draws nominations from across the state. To nominate one of Creswell's many outstanding teachers or education support professionals, visit the Oregon Teacher of the Year website here.

Special Olympics Unified Basketball

Creswell School District is hoping to put together a Special Olympics Unified Basketball team. Unified basketball is a collaboration of special education students with general education partner players. The goal of Unified basketball is to create an inclusion-based climate where all students feel welcome and supported. Middle and high school students are welcome to join! Unified is a short season during the months of January and February. The team will practice on Wednesday early release days from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the Creswell High School gym. Transportation will be available for those in need. The team will participate in two tournaments and three to four games. A schedule will be made once we determine whether there are enough players to create a team. If your student is interested in participating, please contact Risa Bryant at rbryant@creswell.k12.or.us or call (541) 895-6027 by Tuesday, January 4th.

Season of Giving - Thank you!

The generosity of the Creswell community is astounding! 2021's Season of Giving is making a difference for 87 area families while fulfilling needs and wishes for 220 CSD students. This year, in addition to sponsors and community members, the Family Resource Center partnered with Lane County Toys for Tots to extend their reach. Not only did Marine Toys for Tots provide toys for program participants, but they also donated an additional 400 toys to bring joy and hope over the holidays. Thank you, Creswell, for supporting one another and helping our neighbors this holiday season.

More accolades for CMS teacher, Kathi Holst

We are so glad CMS teacher Kathi Holst's work has not only been recognized by our local VFW post. She has also been awarded "Teacher of the Year" by VFW District 13. Thank you for all you do for our students!
