World War II The Pacific Theatre
Yesterday you learned about Europe and devastating impact of a war that was fought largely on European soil. When the United States declared war on Germany and Japan they mobilized to send troops to two parts of the world, Europe and the Pacific. In this lesson you will travel to the Pacific Theater to learn how the war effort was very different there, and required the use of a unique type of warfare to achieve victory.
Major Battles of the Pacific Theatre:
- Bataan Death March
- Battle of Coral Sea
- Battle of Midway
- Island hopping
- Battle of Philippine Sea
- Battle of Leyte Gulf
- Iwo Jima
In Assignments 1 for this lesson you will take a graded quiz. Be sure to look over notes and know the major battles listed above. The quizlet which is linked below will help you prepare.
Assignment 2- For this assignment you will create a timeline of the major topics from the lesson. You will write a summary of each topic and illustrate with one graphic. Be sure to cite your sources including you image sources. I have included a great thinglink of battles to give you more information.
Assignment 3 asks you to write a short opinion/point of view piece on whether or not you agree with the use of atomic weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. You will need to create your original posts and then respond to the posts of two others. I have attached a link to the National Security Archives on the Atomic Bomb, which has a collection of great primary sources. Be sure to check it out!
Let me know if you have any questions.
