Chief Points is a newletter targeted at providing information to students about topics pertinent to their education and future.
Wildlife Leadership Academy
The Wildlife Leadership Academy enriches PA teens and empowers them to become certified Conservation Ambassadors through attending a 5-day residential summer field school on white-tailed deer, bass, brook trout, ruffed grouse, turkey and black bear. Conservation Ambassadors receive:
- Letters of Recommendation from the Executive Director for college applications,
- Certification of community service work,
- Certificates designating them as Conservation Ambassadors, and
- The opportunity to obtain 3 transferable undergraduate level college credits through Cedar Crest college.
Students should be highly motivated and between the ages of 14 and 17 to attend. Student should have demonstrated interest in the outdoors and in wildlife and/or fisheries conservation.
Contact your school counselor to be nominated to be a Conservation Ambassador.
Writers Institute
The Writers Institute at Susquehanna University is offering a number of opportunities for high school students interested in Creative Writing, and we want to share them with you.
Susquehanna and the Writers Institute also offer a free Creative Writing Day event each fall. The 2018 Creative Writing Day will be held on October 22. Students are able to attend this day of readings and creative writing classes with parents or teachers.
Finally, the Writers Institute has begun live streaming many of our readings, including those by prominent and published authors. Students are welcome to visit the Writers Institute Facebook page to view any of our livestreamed readings. They can also follow us on Instagram (@writersinstitute_su) or Twitter (@SU_Writers) to be kept up to date about events and happenings pertaining to the Writers Institute.
First, beginning January 1st, we will be opening our Call for Submissions for the 2018 edition of The Apprentice Writer.We have been putting a lot of care into improving the publication and hope that students and teachers agree.
- Our submission period runs January 1st through March 15th.
- The submission process is now completely online. Students can go to The Apprentice Writer webpage (www.apprenticewriter.com) or directly to the submission page at https://tinyurl.com/apprenticewriter2018
- We will be recognizing one Outstanding Writer and one runner up in both poetry and prose. The Outstanding Writers will receive $200 each and runners up will receive $50 each.
