Holiday Attendance Reminder
This holiday season, the best gift you can give your child is a good education. And the best place to get an education is in school. It's tempting to extend your vacation by a few days, but remember, those days count as absences.
If a travel must occur while school is in session, it must be prearranged. Please fill the Pre-Arranged Absence Form and submitted it 1 week before planned absence. Completion and submission of this form will assure that your child's absence is properly documented.
Greetings from the library!
I’d like to congratulate the students who have achieved the following reading achievements during the first trimester.
Accelerated Reader
Ella R., Henry H., Jonathan B., Liam B., Mercy K., Olivia S., Jeanne B. and Ryan H.
Outstanding Readers
Jonathan B. & Olivia S.
Students Who Read All 6 OTTER Award Nominees
Ciarán L. & Ruari L.
Students Who Read All 12 Sasquatch Award Nominees
Olivia S., Mercy K. & Ella R.
To participate in the OTTER and Sasquatch contests, students read the nominated books then take and pass the Accelerated Reader quizzes. These books are all available at our school library and the Sno-Isle library system. Two of the OTTER books (Willa the Wisp and Dancing at Carnival) are also available on Epic!
To participate in the Accelerated Reader (AR) program, students read books then take and pass Accelerated Reader quizzes. This year, students are able to take quizzes at home as well as at school.
The quizzes are accessible through:
- Student Site by clicking on AR & Star Icons or
- clicking on Clever then Renaissance.
If you have any questions about Columbia’s reading programs, please contact Mrs. Griffin at griffinka@mukilteo.wednet.edu or visit the library website at https://www.mukilteoschools.org/domain/2448. The library website also has links to the library catalog, e-books, research databases, and other helpful resources.
The following table outlines the points required for the Accelerated Reader and Outstanding Reader achievements.
Change of Clothing
We have all heard the saying, "There is not bad weather, only poor clothing". As we move into winter, please remember to dress your child appropriately for outdoor play. (Rain gear, warm jacket).
Spills, mud puddles and accidents can occur while at school. Please send a complete change of clothes with your child (regardless of grade). Label your child's clothes and put them in a ziploc bag to be kept in their backpack. If soiled clothes are sent home, please send a new set of clothes in a new bag.
From the Nurse's Office
Sick Kids:
Keep your student home if they are sick. Even if you think it's allergies or "just the sniffles," staying home prevents others from catching any germs or viruses. Refer to Snohomish Health Department for specific COVID protocols.
- Remember it is your responsibility to contact the school 24 Hours attendance line at (425) 366-2605 to report absence.
Daily Screening Form:
Please use this Daily Screen Form (translations coming soon) with your child and keep wearing masks, washing your hands and limiting social gatherings to help students stay healthy and in school.
COVID testing:
At this time, Columbia is NOT doing any COVID testing. If and when that changes, we will be sure to let you know. Please click on this link for Covid testing information COVID testing resources 11.12.21
Student and Staff health and safety is our priority.
Free Meals for all Students!
- Meals for all students are free of charge regardless of Free/Reduced Status for the 21-22 school year.
- Please encourage families to complete free/reduced applications, as they do need them to receive other benefits that are available (P-EBT Cards).
- Hot food will be served.

Family Outreach
Hi. My name is Libby Stewart-Finerty, aka “Mrs. Finerty”. This is my fourth year as Columbia’s Elementary Support Specialist/School Social Worker. I’m so excited to back in person and I love seeing the students every day on campus. I help support your child’s social wellbeing at school. Your students will see me in their classrooms teaching Bully Prevention, and Child Safety classes for K-5. I also meet with students and families regarding mental health, behavioral and social emotional concerns.
In addition to dealing with matters associated with your child's social wellbeing in school, I am here to assist with school clothes and other resources such as food.
The quickest way to contact me is to email me at StewartfinertyEH@mukilteo.wednet.edu or call me at 425-366-2623. Please checkout my website: Mrs. Finerty, Elementary Support Specialist/Social Worker to find helpful resources for your family.
