Strive for Success-Own Your Actions-Act Safely-Respond Respectfully
THANK YOU!
What an amazing last 2 weeks of the year for our students and staff and one that we will always remember for so many different reasons. After having some time to reflect over the past few days I can’t say enough about how proud we are of our students this year and our school community as a whole.
We need to whole-heartedly thank all of our families for their support and flexibility over the past 15 months! To say that it has been a year of firsts is an understatement. We could not have accomplished what we have if we hadn’t done it TOGETHER. Seeing the struggles firsthand at home with my own kids this year who were in both 5th & 6th grade provided me with a perspective that I was truly grateful for this year. The conversations that I had with so many different parents this year for so many different reasons were ones that helped me to learn and grow even more as both a principal and as a parent myself...THANK YOU
Our 6th-grade students' ability to transition to middle within this learning environment should be celebrated! Their success despite the challenges of virtual and hybrid learning is commendable and we look forward to their success in-person full-time next school year.
With so many new procedures and expectations for everyone we truly modeled a school community and a shared responsibility for everyone's health, safety, and success this year.
Please take the time this summer to enjoy the small moments and experiences that we've all taken for granted in the past! We wish you nothing but a healthy, happy, and safe summer with friends and families.
We are optimistically looking forward to the start of the 2021-22 school year.
With William Penn Pride,
Chris Becker

ATTENDANCE REMINDERS
Attendance phone calls and emails are based on your child’s attendance in their first-period class of the school day. These calls & e-mails will be made at approximately 10:00 AM each school day.
Please remember that attendance is taken EVERY CLASS PERIOD. When a student is absent from a class period those missed periods accumulate.
We continue to count 5 missed periods as 1 DAY of A FULL SCHOOL ABSENCE.
Please continue to monitor your child's attendance in our Home Access Center.
You will receive notification from school through the mail if your child ever accumulates 10 days of absence this school year.
In the Home Access Center, you can view your child’s attendance not only by the day but also by the class period of the school day. Please note, if your child is “absent” for 1 class period in the school day it appears as though he/she is absent for the entire day unless you HOVER over the day. Once you hover your mouse over the day it will show the periods that he/she was absent.
Please contact our attendance INBOX at wpattendance@pennsburysd.org with any questions or excuses for your child’s absence.
In addition, you can submit pictures of doctor’s excuses as well electronically.
Feel free to use this attendance INBOX to also inform us of doctor appointments that would lead to your child being late to school or leaving early.
E-mail your child’s teachers directly if your child is leaving early or will miss classes due to an appointment.

CELL PHONE REMINDER
We follow a simple saying and rule at William Penn regarding cell phones.
"Off and Away During the Day"
There are detailed expectations regarding cell phone use in the District's Code of Conduct on Pgs 9-11. At William Penn, we try to make these detailed expectations simple to remember and follow with our mantra "Off and Away During the Day."
At this point in the year, we have provided our students with multiple notices and reminders regarding the expectations of cell phone use during the instructional day. Because of this, future violations for students will lead to both disciplinary action (up to and including after school detentions) and the requirement of parents/guardians to pick up their child's cell phone from school at their earliest convenience. This also includes expectations for headphones during the school day during non-instructional time.
We recognize that many parents desire that their child have a phone for various reasons but we do not want to interrupt or distract the learning environment at school. Please do not call or text your child during the school day. If there is a need for your child to call home they are required to report to the office and use our student designated office phone. There has been a recent increase in situations where students and parents have texted each other during the school day. This has led to interruptions to the learning environment and confusion in our main office regarding arrangements being made between students and parents. We thank you in advance for your support regarding this matter.
