Hosford Library Announcements:

Exciting news! The Hosford Library will be hosting an author visit on Thursday, October 5th during both advisories. All students are invited to sign up, though space is limited!

Portland author Keely Grand will be here to talk about her new book, Troublemakers and Superpowers. It’s a beautiful biography collection highlighting 29 famous and historical figures who have “turned their childhood struggles – their personal “troublemakers” – into strengths that enabled them to live their lives to the fullest” (from the publisher).

Students will have the opportunity to to sign up in advisory this week, but in case they missed it, here is the form to attend!

If you would like to purchase a copy of Grand’s book to pick up during the author talk, head to our page at Maggie Mae’s Books by October 3rd to have it delivered directly to school.

See you soon!

PTA Clothing Closet

Every year, each PPS school sends 5 to 6 volunteers to staff the Clothing Closet at the Marshall Campus (Benson) High School. This is a fun event where we staff the Clothing Closet as a group!

Volunteers will help students shop and find clothes that make them feel good or they will sort donations and organize the shop.

The PTA Clothing Closet is 100% volunteer supported and serves over 1000 students per year! If

volunteers don’t show up, students don’t get to shop. It is okay if volunteers cannot stay the entire time.

Any amount of time given is helpful!

Location: PPS PTA Clothing Center

Marshall (Benson HS) Campus

3905 SE 91 St, Room B-60

(Reminder) Oregon Battle of the Books

It’s time to launch this year’s Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) at Hosford! Interested students can pick up applications in the library, and parents can complete the after-school permission form here. Teams will meet twice monthly on Wednesday afternoons, from 3:50-4:30. Our first meeting will be Wednesday, October 18th, 2023.

Interested in volunteering with OBOB this year? We are in need of parent

volunteers to help with twice-monthly meetings, and to support battles in

early 2024. Please reach out to librarian Alex Mahrt for more information!

(Reminder) Drop Off and Pick-Up @ Hosford MS

If you are dropping off your child(ren) or picking up by car, please review the visual below. We will be directing cars down 28th Place if you are coming from any of the side streets that are perpendicular to 28th Place.

Please do not stop or park on the west section of SE Grant Street near the school. This is our bus loading and unloading areae.

If you want to avoid the traffic, plan to meet your child(ren) a block or two away.

(Reminder) 26th and Grant Street

Do your children walk Grant Street and cross 26th on their way to and from school?

Please talk with them about double checking for cars at that intersection. Cars coming down or going up the hill do not have a stop sign.

We have heard from the neighbors that cars are coming quickly down the hill and not looking for students crossing, and kids are not always checking for cars coming. I have reached out to Safe Routes to see if they will come observe and help change this intersection.

I do not have any staff that I can send over to supervise, but if you'd like to volunteer, we'd love to have you come help students cross and slow down the cars.

E-mail me at jliddle@pps.net if you are available and interested.

Thank you for considering!
