As We Move Forward:

To All Our Mathews Families,

Today is the first day of spring and the sun is trying to shine. It gives a sense of hope as we continue to work together during this difficult time.

This newsletter is to keep you in the loop as we move forward both in regards to all district updates as well as learning opportunities for our Mavs from their teachers.

Our teachers are currently hard at work planning remotely to provide optimal learning opportunities for your children during this time. We will be sending out your children's lessons each week on Monday morning.

PLEASE know, we know many of you are either working from home, or have someone caring for your children while you are at work. As a district, we understand completely and know we are planning accordingly. This is a time for TRUST and GRACE as we work together to continue to meet the many needs of our students and families.

Please forward this to friends who may not already be signed up for e-News as well as encourage them to sign up for e-News at:

We, our teachers and staff, our children and parents, and our district are 'All-In'.

Ongoing Updates from the District:

Plano ISD is dedicated to caring for our students in and outside of the classroom. We are working diligently to offer solutions that will minimize the effect that this extended school closure may have on our families. Thank you to the community groups and volunteers who have reached out with various offers of help.

As we receive information on available support and services, we will post those details on our website at

PISD Remote Learning Kicks Off Monday, March 23

At this time our campuses are closed through Friday, April 3; but not our learning!

Remote learning district wide will begin on Monday, March 23rd.

Information on Chromebook checkout will be coming soon.

In the event that school closing extends beyond April 3, we will update our online learning plan to support a longer term continuity of learning. We will continue to provide you with ongoing updates. Thank you for your understanding and kind notes in thinking of us.

How to Support Digital Learning from Home

How will I support my student’s learning and instruction from home during the closure?

  • Plano ISD provides many digital tools to support in-class learning, and our students will have access to these resources which are aligned to their classes through the PISD Webdesk and the student digital backpack. Directions to access these resources from home can be found HERE.
  • Set aside time each day during the school closure for practice, extension and enrichment utilizing provided resources.
  • Choose something to read with your student, or provide time for self-selected reading every day.
  • More information will be shared in the future to support student learning in the event that the school closure lasts beyond April 3.

Technology Assistance:

Technology Access

In an effort to better understand and support the needs of our community, we are asking a few questions related to Plano ISD students' collective ability to access technology outside of school. We fully recognize the irony of using an online survey to gather this information. Please be assured that survey responses will be coupled with additional data collected using "offline" methods to inform our decisions and plans of action. Access and share this survey at:

Estimadas Familias,

Acceso a tecnología

Family and Community Resources:

This week we launched a Family Resource page on the district’s website. This page provides a searchable list that families, community members and school staff can utilize to help find community resources in order to meet a family’s needs. The list is searchable by agency name, zip code and category. Categories include such areas as basic needs (food assistance, housing assistance), health care (medical, dental, vision), and mental health (substance abuse, counseling, etc.).

The family resource page can be found at

Big picture

Planning Your Child's Day:

However it might work best is particular to each family; however, a routine, or schedule is always helpful for children.

Create a daily schedule between chores and learning and playtime. Add some incentives for staying up a little later if the day goes well (but not too late!)

Balance time with electronics and other activities. Read a good book, draw, bake, pull weeds...(it is that time of year!) and try to stay away or limit social media. Too much of that isn't good for any of us!

For older children, ask them to help create their schedule with you together.
