"One person is enough to change the world."
These are the final words of the book Emmanuel's Dream, and change the world he did. Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah was born with a strong body but only one leg. At the time, people with disABILITIES in Ghana got little to no support and were seen as a burden. Time and again Emmanuel faced prejudice and hardship, but thanks to the love and support of his family and his own grit, he went to school, made friends, earned a living, and later rode a bike over 400 miles across all of Ghana, raising awareness and doing much to combat the stigma persons with disABILITIES face in Ghana.
As part of our One Book, One School project, all Roadrunners read the book Emmanuel's Dream. Imagine our surprise when we discovered that Emmanuel was doing another ride for change, this time to raise funds for a school in Ghana and to put ramps in existing schools. After Katie Mitchell and Suley Hussain reached out to see if we could ride with him in Ohio, Emmanuel was so excited to hear about so many children reading his book and dreaming, he decided to take a detour, talk to our kids, and ride with us. Special thanks to Dave Greiwe for helping direct the bike ride on Sunday.
While Emmanuel has gone back to his ride, his impact stays with us and our journey is FAR from over. Be on the lookout for a showcase of our learning in January and a service project in the spring.
School Dismissal Manager - there's an App for that!
We are excited to announce the launch of our new School Dismissal Manager app. There are now apps for both Android and Apple which can now be found in their respective app stores.
This app is available at no additional charge and there are two ways to find it:
- Parents can go to their app store and search for School Dismissal Manager.
- Parents can go to the School Dismissal Manager homepage where they will find an app announcement with download buttons for both Android and Apple.
Designed to give parents the quick and easy access needed to make changes on-the-run, the app is limited to just the necessities. With the app, parents can:
- Create/Cancel a single exception within the two-week calendar view
- Set Parent Preferences for name, email, password, mobile number, and opting in or out of emails or text notifications
- Contact the school directly via email
- On a day where a child has an exception scheduled, the parents of that child who use the app will receive a reminder notification; this feature is ONLY available in the app

Youth Mentoring Initiative
The Hamilton Southeastern School System is in a continued partnership with Youth Mentoring Initiative. It is YMI’s vision to provide mentoring support for students by building and sustaining a mentoring community here in Fishers.
As a member of this community, this is where you can help. You have an opportunity to impact the life of a young person by simply being present and sharing your life experience with them. When you share your life you change their life.
YMI is currently looking for mentors for Riverside Intermediate, Sand Creek Intermediate, Riverside Junior High, Fall Creek Junior High, Fishers Junior, Fishers High School and HSE School. We are in need of male mentors for students at SandCreek Intermediate Riverside Intermediate and Fishers Junior High. You have an opportunity to be part of something special in Fishers. The Mayor, Scott Fadness has issued the "Mayors Challenge", which is to raise up an additional 50 new mentors this Fall.
Please attend our next Informational meeting at New Hope Presbyterian Church, October 19th http://www.ymionline.org/events
