Math- Mrs. McKinney
Language Arts- Ms. Waxman
In language arts:
This week we really will be reading the last 4 chapters of our novel study, ( I got a little ahead of myself last week!) chapters 13-16. Our chapters 9-12 last week gave us a real picture of the wide variety of disguises, and adventures that Emma was able to successfully pill off during her time with the Union Army. Students put themselves in her shoes last week when they wrote journals, diaries, and personal letters from Emma's perspective about her adventures...they did a really great job on them!
We will also be looking for representatives for our SMMS Spelling Bee that will be held in January. The winner of our school contest will move onto the County Spelling Bee.
I presented the students with a "TweenTribune Holiday Special " last week, and the majority of students came through and will be rewarded with an extra week off before the break. We have also had an increase in students who are completing their Independent (Choice) Reading books. Students who have completed their 3 books for this quarter will be enjoying the rewards of their labors this Friday afternoon! I hope everyone will enjoy a good book over the holiday break!
Hope your week is fantastic!
Science- Mrs. Allen
This week in Science, students will be researching how loud noises affect our hearing. They will pull information from given articles on the topic to outline and use in preparing an argumentative essay. Then we will dive into an exploration of different music genres, survey each other on favorite genres, and even create our own musical instruments on Friday! We have a full week ahead of us before the holidays! Let’s make it a great one! J
