Family Inquirer
Week of 2/22/21
Greetings ICEF Innovation Families,
We hope this newsletter finds you SAFE and WELL!
It's DISTRIBUTION Week!
We will be distributing T3 books, art kits, and reading book bags on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 9:00am - 12:00pm and from 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Please return your current book page in the Ziploc, with your reading log (or a sheet of paper with the student's name). There will be a special treat on Tuesday, for those who come to pick up their supplies on that day. The In N Out truck will be here, between 10:30am - 12:00pm with free hamburgers/cheeseburgers for every student and one adult who comes with them. We will have In N Out certificates for a free hamburger or cheeseburger for the fist 20 students who come on Monday and Wednesday! Be sure to come to the school on one of these days. Students will need these materials to finish out the school year.
REOPENING TOWN HALL Meeting!
Be sure to join us on Thursday at 5:00, as we discuss our return to the campus. Hear about important information about the reopening dates and schedules and the safety guidelines that will be in place. Some students will return to campus as early as March 1. Please also complete the Reopening Questionnaire link here (English) and here (Spanish). We need to hear from you!
Attendance Matters!
Please make sure your children are in attendance every week. We are noticing that absences are high on Fridays, so we will continue to offer Friday recess to students who attend their virtual classes on Fridays. Make sure your child is there. You don't want them to miss out.
Be sure to read the Inquirer in its entirety. If you have any questions, please reach out to the main office.
Have an AWESOME week!

Attendance Matters!
Hello families, We have noticed that the attendance on Fridays is low and we would like to change that. Students who attend class will enjoy a VIRTUAL RECESS with their class every Friday. Doesn't that sound fun?
Academics
STEM
STEM has exciting lessons to share with the students but they have to be there to enjoy them. Please take a look at the attached video to find out more about our STEM program.
Lexia & Achieve 3000: (ICEF Core Values of COMMUNITY, EQUITY, and GROWTH)
Students should logon to Lexia (TK-3rd and some 4th and 5th graders), and Achieve 3000 (4th and 5th only) daily. These programs allow students to practice reading and reading comprehension, improving on their skills and being exposed to a variety of different texts to include fiction and non fiction. Make it a habit to ask your children if they are using these programs. You can also see how they are progressing by looking at their accounts or reaching out to their classroom teacher to get a comprehensive report.
Reading Assessments: (ICEF Core Values of COMMUNITY, EQUITY, and GROWTH)
Students will take reading assessments with their teachers over the next couple of weeks. Please be encouraging to your children during this time. Remind them of the importance of taking their time on every test they take and provide them with a quiet space where they can do their best. Feel free to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions about testing.
SBAC Parent Post
This link (English/Spanish-page 2) gives you a brief look at what the SBAC looks like. You can always visit the CAASPP website and find sample questions and practice tests your child can take.
We will continue this section, for our 3rd-5th grade families though May, after testing is complete. Feel free to reach out to Mrs. Jundef (sjundef@icefps.org), Mr. Rodriguez (margarito.rodriguez@icefps.org), Ms. Clark (rclark@icefps.org), or Ms. McGee (lmcgee@icefps.org) with any SBAC related questions.
We are here for you!

On your computer, you can simply open the link and look at the top of the screen, in between the search bar and the bell symbol.

English Language Learner (ELL) Chronicles!
In this section we will highlight the language and culture of our English Language Learners and their families. I would love to share your stories with the school community. Feel free to email stories, pictures, or examples of how you see the language and culture of our ELLs and their families incorporated in the learning environment.
An ELL Chronicle from Ms. Clark, Mrs. Rhee & Anonymous!
"I've been using sentence frames with my student when I ask him a question. I rarely need to use them now as he answers in complete sentences without prompting." -Clark
"In the beginning, my student didn't want to participate in small groups. We started with small talks and now he feels more comfortable working with me." -Mrs. Rhee
"My student seemed a little sad the other day. I asked him if he was feeling ok and if he needed a break. He said he was ok, but he asked if he could share something with me. I said, "Sure." He shared his video game and after he shared it with me, his spirits picked up. I then moved on to teaching him." -- Anonymous
