PTO Update

We are feeling pretty lucky that we were able to host our Italian Night before school closures! Thank you to everyone who attended, we had a great time with you all! We have no final numbers at this time but we can say over $9000 was raised for our school and our students! Thank you to all of our volunteers, teachers, families for support and coming to join the fun.

Stay tuned to the weekly newsletters for continued PTO updates throughout the school closure.

Video Link - When You Were Brave

I had the chance to pop into a couple virtual classrooms and share this story with some students today and I will continue with more classrooms after break.

Mrs. Bartol shared this story with me and I just couldn't wait to share it all with you. The author, Pat Miller, visited Hillcrest a few years ago and shared a couple of her "Sophie" stories with our community. This is one of her newer books and it reminds me of how BRAVE our community has been this week.

Food Assistance

For assistance with food, the Waukesha Food Pantry does remain open during regular hours. The Salvation Army Food Pantry has pre-packaged groceries Tues & Wed from 1-4pm and Fri 9am-noon that will be passed out through a window in the parking lot. Families can also continue to use the meal program - Tuesday & Thursday and Saturday from 5:00 pm - 5:40 pm. All meals will be prepared ahead of time and given out in to go boxes in the same format as grocery distribution. Moreover, they will be distributing lunches at Sentinel Park during Spring Break from 11:45 and 12:30 pm. Additionally, Waukesha School District meal pick up information can be found here.

Talking to kids about the pandemic

A lot is changing in our world right now, very rapidly, and it can be hard to figure out how to explain this to our kids. The following resources might be a useful starting points. If your child is really struggling with everything that's happening, don't hesitate to reach out to Ms. Brilliant, our school psychologist, for additional support.

Showcase of Learning - Postponed!

Our Showcase of Learning evening, where STUDENTS lead a conference with their parents about the progress for the year, is being postponed for the time being. Once students are allowed back to school, we will look to reschedule this evening.

School Hours

Teacher online office hours are from 9:00-11:00AM and they may invite your child to a small group or one on one lesson at a different time. Please see your child's teacher for communication on what the student day looks like during our virtual schooling.

Upcoming Dates

March 23rd-27th: Spring Break - No School

We will evaluate events two weeks ahead of time to determine if an event will be postponed or canceled unless school is canceled for the remainder of the year. Stay tuned to the newsletters for updated.

Forward Testing - Postponed!

Forward and DLM test windows will not open as planned on March 23 due to the Governor’s executive order to close schools for the duration of the public health emergency.

As a public school in Wisconsin, we administer the Forward to test to all of our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students each spring. Our testing window for the 2019-2020 school year is approaching after spring break and we want to make families aware of what this testing entails and our anticipated timelines for completion. Please see the attached documents and let us know if you have any questions.
