TEAM SUCCESS NEWSLETTER
February 2023

Dear Parent/Guardian,
This month we celebrate Black History Month by commemorating the achievements of Black Americans, and in particular, Black Floridians. As Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. has explained, “African Americans have a long and proud history in our great state of Florida, and Black History Month is the perfect occasion to celebrate their many achievements. Learning about African American achievements is central to learning about Florida and America itself."
In February, we also mark the mid-point of our third quarter by sending out progress reports, and we celebrate friendship on February 14, Valentines Day.
On February 14, 2023, we will have our annual Testing Bootcamp for parents in the morning. Please stay tuned for the invite.
Thank you for being a part of our Team Success family!
As always, please feel free to reach out to your child's teachers and to our school staff and administrators in the main office with any questions or concerns.

One Team, One Dream
During the first week of the semester, students worked together in their homerooms to create posters showcasing the new motto. These posters now decorate school hallways and classrooms.

1st Grade Field Trip to Sarasota Jungle Gardens
On January 13, 2023, the first grade students traveled to Sarasota Jungle Gardens for their first field trip. The field trip was initiated by Mrs. Gangnagel and funded in part with a 2022-2023 Florida Teacher Impact Grant.
The students and teachers had a great time at Jungle Gardens enjoying the Wildlife Wonder Show, the Jungle Bird Show, and walking around interacting with the animals at the park.
Included are some pictures of our students enjoying the day.

Out-Of Field Teachers 02/2023
All Educators in Florida are monitored to ensure they meet certification and training requirements as mandated by law. Per Florida Statute 1012.42, when a teacher is assigned teaching duties out of the field in which the teacher is certified, the parents of all students in the class shall be notified in writing.
Manatee County Public Schools is committed to providing quality instruction for all students and does so by employing the most qualified individuals to teach and support each student in the classroom. All of our teachers are certified to teach, although some of them are currently out-of-field and are working on additional areas of certification. You have the right to know the professional qualifications of the teachers who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for certain information about your child’s teachers and requires us to give you this information in a timely manner if you ask for it. If you would like more information, please contact your school at (941)714-7260.
The table below lists teachers who are currently out-of-field.

Celebrating Black History Month

Attendance Matters: In school, every day!
Please make sure that your child is in school every day for every class, on time and ready to learn.
Did you know that missing 10% or more of school puts a child in much greater danger of falling behind academically and struggling with reading and math? It also increases the danger of not graduating from high school.
Ten percent is just 2 days a month! That means that being absent just 2 days a month puts your child at greater risk. This is true regardless of whether the absence is excused or unexcused.
So please, in as much as possible, make medical appointments outside school hours and take vacations or trips during school breaks, so your children receive the full benefits of their time at Team Success.
