Inclusive Schools Week Dec. 6-10

Walnut will be joining all CVUSD schools as well as schools across the nation to celebrate Inclusive Schools Week December 6-10. The theme this year is "Rebuilding Our Inclusive Community Together." The purpose of this week is to recognize the importance of a supportive and quality education for all students, regardless of cultural heritage, language background, learning styles, disabilities, gender, socioeconomic status, and other factors. At Walnut, we have always known that our diversity makes us stronger! This week, we will celebrate what makes us unique and all that we have in common. We are committed to helping everyone feel valued, accepted, and included.

We're excited to kick off the week with assemblies featuring guest speaker Amanda Ford, the current Miss California. She will be sharing insights for children from her Autism Awareness platform. Throughout the week, students will be working on an "I Am" project that culminates in a new bulletin board display spotlighting each child and staff member.

Walnut PTA is sponsoring an adopt-a-family program focused on gift cards this year. The goal is to provide an extra boost to 10 selected Walnut families. A flyer with more information was sent home with your child, and a digital version is attached to this newsletter. If you would like to donate a gift card, please send it in to your child's teacher by December 9th. Suggested gift cards: grocery store, gas, restaurant, Target, Walmart, etc.

Walnut Elementary School

Walnut is a neighborhood school with a BIG heart, where every student is valued and encouraged to develop a lifelong love of learning. We believe in developing the whole child, so we invest in the visual and performing arts, technology, and physical fitness in addition to traditional academics. We were recently one of five schools in Ventura County named as a California Honor Roll School. We are committed to our mission statement, Academic Excellence for All in a Safe, Enriching Environment. Walnut has an active PTA, School Site Council, and English Language Advisory Council. Each of these groups of parents and community members would LOVE to have YOU join them in making sure Walnut provides the best possible learning environment for students and families. Please contact us if you'd like to know more. --Mrs. Wall, Principal
