Skyview School of STEM
October 19, 2023
From the Principal's Desk
Hello Skyview families,
It has been a great week here at Skyview. Wonderful learning has been taking place, and the steady rhythms of school are rolling.
Today we practiced a shelter (often for tornados) drill with our students. We informed all of our students and staff about this drill, and our students did an amazing job! These drills help us to be prepared for any unexpected events that may occur while we are at school. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or the office if you or your family need support during or after any of our drills.
Our conference weeks are beginning next week with our late evenings on Wednesday, October 25 and Monday, October 30. It is not too late to sign up for a time to meet with your child’s teacher. Our school goal is to meet with 100% of our families over the next two weeks, so we can partner with you in your child’s continued growth. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you still need to schedule a time to meet.
Please remember that November 2 and 3 are days off for our students. Please be sure to have necessary childcare for your kids on those days.
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Evan Netzer
Skyview Principal
Attendance
Please call the attendance line (970)686-8505 before 8:30am if your child is going to be absent from school or report absences in the Parent Portal. An automated call will go out at 8:45am if the student is marked absent and we haven't received a call from the parent. The student will be marked unexcused until we hear from a parent. While it is good to let classroom teachers know via email, please do report absences to the office so that we can properly record them. The District Attendance Policy is linked to the photo if you need that information.
Helping Hands

Please contact the school office at (970)686-8500 by Monday, October 23 if you have a student in need of a coat. We will need the student's name and coat size. Coats will be delivered the week of November 9th.
* Christmas Adopt a Family - Timberline Church has a program for families in need of Christmas gifts. Please call the office if this might be helpful to you. We share your name and email with Timberline and they arrange the process. We need to make referrals by November 10.
*Weld Elves - This is a Weld County First Responders Organization that provides holiday gifts for families in need. We have a referral form in the office that we complete for families who want to participate in this program. Please contact the office if you would like to be referred.
* Thanksgiving Grocery Gift Cards - St. Alban's Church is donating grocery gift cards for Thanksgiving to families in need. If you can use help with groceries, please contact the office as soon as possible and we will let them know. We will communicate the number of cards needed this Friday, October 20.
* Weld Food Bank Backpacks for Kids - This is an ongoing program in which the Weld Food Bank provides bags of food for children each Thursday. We have a list that we keep updated for students who want to participate in this program. Call the office at any time to be added to the list.
Immunization Compliance
Attention parents! By October 30th your student must be compliant with the state immunization process either by being up to date with current required immunizations or by completing the exemption process. If your student is not compliant, they will be excluded from school starting October 30th. You can view your student's immunization record and status on the parent portal by selecting "more" from the menu options, then selecting "health, immunizations."
Please contact Mrs Cobb in the health office with any questions. 970-686-8512.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you received an email on 9/12/23 stating your student was missing immunizations but you have already submitted immunizations and/or your student is up to date, no further action is needed at this time. If your student is still missing immunizations and/or you have not yet submitted an exemption, you will receive a letter and/or phone call from the health office advising of such. Please note, you may check your student’s immunization status by logging into you Parent Portal on Infinite Campus.
Opportunities to Help at Skyview
* Please keep an eye out for messages from your child's teachers and room coordinators. Several classrooms have had minimal responses to the requests for help. Halloween parties are coming very soon.
* Please see the message below about contributing to a staff meal for late night conferences.
* PTAC/SAC (Parent/Teacher Advisory Committee/School Accountability Committee) - this is a team that is dedicated to enhancing our school as a whole and a great opportunity to invest in your child's education.
* Watch for other opportunities to participate - we love our families and our community and want you to be a part of it!
Conference Night Dinner for Staff
Hello Skyview Families,
Please see the below link to sign up and help provide food for our wonderful Skyview teachers and staff next Wednesday October 25th during parent/teacher conferences. We need enough to feed 60 people and are requesting it to be brought in a little earlier this year (by 2pm) as some teachers only have the time right after pick up to eat. Please see the link below for more information. Your help in feeding our wonderful teachers and staff is greatly appreciated, please let me know if you have any questions.

Safe Schools Month
October is Safe Schools Month. In recognition of this designation, we look to share different aspects of our safety program with you:
Standard Response Protocol
Our district proactively works to prepare our school staff, students, and buildings for a variety of safety scenarios. We utilize the i love u guys Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol. This protocol provides common language and training to school districts across the country, and includes five specific safety actions: hold, secure, lockdown, evacuate, and shelter. We would encourage you to engage your children in conversations about our Standard Response Protocol language, discussing what your student can expect in each scenario and talking through any associated feelings. Community Partners
We value our close partnerships with Windsor Severance Fire Rescue and the police departments at the Town of Severance and Town of Windsor. We regularly work with our local first responders to ensure the readiness of our school personnel and law enforcement for preparation, response, and after action related to preparedness for a variety of safety and security situations. Through a partnership with the Windsor and Severance Police Departments, we have four School Resource Officers (SROs) at our school buildings. Learn More

Dressing up for Halloween?
Every year we get several phone calls about what kids can and cannot do as far as dressing up for Halloween. If a student chooses to dress up, please adhere to the following rules:
- No props of any kind may be brought to school (This includes swords, weapons, fairy wands, etc.)
- Face paint or temporary hair color must be applied at home and not brought to school. (All face paint must be removed by the next school day.)
- No time will be given at school to dress up.
- No masks may be worn.
- Absolutely no gore, blood or fangs.
- The student’s costume must allow the student to participate in any school activities that happen during the school day. This includes PE and recess.
- When designing costumes, please be mindful that we do have preschoolers in our building, we want them to be comfortable and not scared.
Visiting/Volunteering? Don't forget your ID
As part of our ongoing efforts to increase the safety and security of our schools, we will continue to require all visitors and volunteers to be processed through the Raptor Technologies screening system. All non-staff members wishing to access the school building will need to provide a state / government-issued ID at check in. Volunteers must reapply each school year.
Visitors
Visitors typically do not work with students unsupervised and are not engaging with regular and ongoing volunteer activities. Utilizing a state or government issued ID, all visitors will be screened against the registered sex offender database.
Volunteers (including field trip chaperones)
Volunteers are involved on a more regular and ongoing basis and may be alone with students. All volunteers must complete an application and background check that includes a search of the national criminal database, sex offender list, and terrorist watchlist. Once an account has been created and the application has been approved, you will be able to login and review volunteer opportunities at your selected schools. Apply Now (English|Spanish)
