Pastor Mary Beth's Musings
“The Bible? … It’s a guide book.”
“It’s inspired, but filled with inaccuracies.”
“It’s a storybook, written by someone about some characters, just like any other book you can get at the library.”
“The most trustworthy book ever written.”
“Nothing more than a collection of myths.”
Every major denomination of Christianity affirms a similar commitment to the authority and inspiration of the Bible. They may do so with different words and emphases, but in the end all Christians look to the Bible as a source of truth about God, themselves, and what they must do in order to be in a proper relationship with God. Is their trust in the Bible well-founded? Is the Bible reliable?
According to The Barna Group, 80% of Americans believe that the Bible is sacred text, but only 43% of American Christians firmly believe that the Bible is accurate in all of its principles.
This Sunday, we’ll address Question 6 of The 7 Big Questions: Is the Bible Reliable? Spoiler alert: this pastor says “Yes!” But we’ll unpack HOW we can know it is reliable AND relevant 2000+ years later.
I’m praying for you. I hope you’re praying for me.
Glory to God!
