Hillcrest Family Newsletter

January 14th, 2019

Welcome to 2019!

It was so fun to be back with students after break. You could tell, around the building, that students were glad to be back with their school family! We are all excited for the next "leg" of our school journey together.

Hillcrest at the School Board

Thank you to Mrs. Schultz, Ms. Lauer and Mr. Polowy for representing Hillcrest at the Teaching and Learning Committee on Tuesday evening. Students Landon Fila, Caroline Hyke, Easton Hoyt and Kiena Schatzman proudly shared how we grow community here at Hillcrest. Board members were impressed with our student presenter and glad to see how learners are growing at Hillcrest!

Too Sick for School?

This time of year always brings an uptick in the number of students and staff who are home due to illness. Just a reminder, students need to be free of fever and stomach issues (vomiting and diarrhea) for 24 hours, medicine free, before they can return to school. Thank you for keeping a close eye on your child's health!

Winter Parent/Teacher Conferences

It’s that time of year again! Our Winter Conferences are scheduled by teachers on an "as needed" basis. If your teacher has any concerns regarding your child's progress, they will connect with you regarding a day and time for a parent/teacher conference. These conferences will take place during the month of January or December.

As always if you have any questions or concerns please reach out to your child’s teacher. There is no need to wait for the teacher to reach out to you. Your child's teacher is more than willing to sit down and have a face to face conversation or even a phone call conference.

We look forward to connecting with you!

Winter Clothing/Please send extra clothes to school with your kids!

Please make sure you are sending your children with proper attire for the snow. Boots, snowpants, hats and gloves are all needed. Also, please pack extra socks and other clothing that they may get wet and need a dry replacement for. There were multiple kids in the office today for dry socks, pants, boots and snowpants. Please make sure your children are prepared to have a fun experience at recess in the snow and cold.

Safe Arrival - Available Now!

Hillcrest is now fully up and running with the district's new attendance reporting system, Safe Arrival. Safe Arrival allows you to report an absence or appointment at any time from your phone. Our attendance line is still available for reporting absences but we encourage you to give Safe Arrival a try. We know you will find it to be an easy to use system that is available at times that work for YOU!

1) By far the easiest way to interact with the new system is by downloading the app on your phone and signing up for an account.

2) If you are not an app user and prefer to use your computer signup and login at https://go.schoolmessenger.com/

3) The phone option is still available by calling the attendance line at school. There will be a menu there to transfer your call into the new system. You may however, want to use the direct number 1-866-490-7371. By dialing direct from a phone that is registered with the district, the system should recognize the number you are calling from and be able to quickly identify your children and allow you to confirm their absence.
