Final Day For Elementary Device Pick Up
Supply Drop Off from August 31-September 4 at Maple Elementary
If you are worried about your child carrying their supplies on the first day, you can drop off the supplies for your student before the first day of school. Grade level boxess will be marked in the vestibule from August 31st to September 4th. Please make sure your child's items are in a secure bag/box and clearly labeled with your child's name and the teacher's name. Place your child's items in the correct grade level box. Staff will monitor the boxes throughout the day and deliver the supplies to the correct classroom.
If you need an evening drop off, the front doors will remain unlocked until 6:30 PM on Wednesday, September 2nd. All other days (August 31, September 1, September 3, and September 4) the front doors will be unlocked from 8 AM to 4 PM.
If you ordered school supplies, these have been delivered to the school and will be delivered to your child's classroom. If your child will be participating in virtual learning, we will contact you about picking up these supplies.

First Day of School Procedures
Our daily arrival procedures include:
Students will be permitted to enter the building at 8:30 AM. Bus riders and walkers who are not breakfast eaters will enter through the front doors, car riders who are not breakfast eaters will enter through the side doors by the stairs & ramp. All breakfast eaters will enter through the cafeteria doors. Students will need to be masked as they enter the building. Visitors will not be permitted in the school.
If your child is a car rider, please remain in your car in the drop off line. There is no early drop off and students may not wait outside the building or in the vestibule. Staff will arrive at the car rider line at 8:30 AM to invite students into the building.
Kindergarten Families on the First Day:
We are inviting kindergarten families to walk their student to the South Playground at 8:30 AM on the first day of school. Your child's buddy teacher will be there to welcome them and help them find a safe spot in their class line. You may watch you child enter the school doors and walk to their kindergarten classrooms from the playground. Please social distance on the playground as you help us welcome your child to kindergarten and Maple Elementary.
Plan to arrive early to ensure you have a parking spot and time to walk to school if parking in the neighborhood. Please do not park in the bus loop in front of the school or along the curb in the parking lot where the car rider line runs. You will need to find a spot in the parking lot or park on the streets near Maple Avenue or Maple Lane.

This is my 18th year in education and 2nd year as a school counselor. I grew up in north Iowa and gravitated to the Kansas City area in 2000. I have a 16 year old daughter, Daley, who is a sophomore at Smithville High School and a Smithville Dazzler and a 6 year old son, Mason, who will be attending kindergarten at Maple Elementary. My husband and I have been married for 8 years and live in the Smithville community. For fun we love to be outside, enjoy time with family and always love a good meal at a local restaurant. I look forward to working with your family!
I believe social and emotional learning is the foundation for all academic success. SEL provides skills to encourage positive relationships and manage life stressors. I believe that all students have the opportunity to become productive, cooperative, socially responsible, ethically and culturally sensitive members of a global society.
My role at Maple Elementary includes:
Individual Counseling
Teaching Classroom Lessons
Small Groups
Parent Workshops
Career Exploration
Academic Support
Collaboration
Behavior Intervention

If you’d like to set up an appointment with me to discuss your student’s needs or would like to refer your student for brief short-term counseling services, please send me an email at houghc@smithville.k12.mo.us. THANKS!

What is PTO exactly?
Group of volunteers made up of Parents & Teachers
And what does PTO do?
This year more than ever, PTO needs your help to make this school year as successful as possible! With the needs for additional supplies and materials, the school alone does not have the additional budget for all the things. That's where PTO steps in to help!!
With your $10 membership donation, PTO is able to:
- provide individual materials and supplies for the students
- teacher/staff appreciation
- fall/Valentine school parties (however they may look this year)
- bring in school fundraisers
- provide teacher grants to help with special projects throughout the year
- and anything else that will undoubtedly come up as we all are navigating these unprecedented times
Does my $10 membership fee require my physical time to volunteer?
Absolutely not! While we would love to see your face when volunteers are allowed back in the building, your $10 membership does not require you to volunteer any of your time.
Please remember, we need a NEW membership from you each year. Invite the grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors! You don't need to have a child at Maple to support Maple PTO!!
We need YOUR help to ensure a safe & successful year for our kids!
