News from Sanborn School
October 4, 2020
A note from Mrs. Johansen
What a great week! We LOVED having our 1st and 2nd graders back at school for in-person instruction. All students, parents, and staff made an amazing adjustment to school and all of our new procedures.
We are excited that we will have our third and fourth grade classrooms in school tomorrow.
Students who are in our virtual classrooms will remain in their virtual classrooms.
We continue to look at our procedures to ensure that our school community is safe as we participate with in-person learning. Our 5th, 6th grade and ECDEC students will start the following week on October 13th!
Before you continue reading please watch this video about our pick-up and drop off procedures.
Breakfast Grab 'N' Go Procedures
Students will receive their breakfast bags on Monday for the next 5 days. Breakfast bags will go home on Monday afternoons. Please be aware that the breakfast bags have milk in them and it should be refrigerated. If you would like to "Opt Out" of any part of our breakfast program, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/bkGPiirX3AKd25LD6
Transportation and Daycare
At the beginning of each new school year, all students are automatically routed from and to their home address. It is the responsibility of the parent to inform school of alternate pickup or dropoff locations, so that school can pass the information on to transportation. Please make sure you have emailed Mrs. Cox with your changes. She can be reached at coxd@ccsd15.net.
Parent should log into Infinite Campus to check their transportation times and locations. We request your changes of transportation be in writing (email, preferred) and as soon as you know them. This particularly applies to the end of the day routine. We appreciate your cooperation!
Recess/Lunch Procedures
Our noon hour will be from 11:45-12:45 for grades 1-6. We will operate on a 20-20-20 schedule where students eat for 20 minutes, are in indoor recess for 20 minutes, and are outside for 20 minutes.
Classrooms will be assigned a specific zone outside where they will stay with their class. We will not be using playground equipment, nor various materials that will be shared (balls, hula hoops, etc).
Students can be unmasked outside as long as they are 6ft apart. Students will eat at their desks where they are 6 feet apart. Adults will be actively supervising all locations during the 20-20-20 period of time to ensure student safety.
Specials Classes
PE classes will be held outside, weather permitting. In the case of inclement weather, our PE classes will be moved indoors. Our music and art classes will be held in the classroom, in most situations.

IN-PERSON PROCEDURES
As we transition to in-person learning there are a few procedures that we would like our families to help with. Please remember to be patient and parents must remain in their cars.
MORNING ARRIVAL
CAR RIDERS
-Please have your child’s lanyard on and signed. Students need to have their lanyard signed for entrance into the school.
-Please pull all the way forward to allow for a continuous flow of cars.
-Parents will need to remain in their car when their student(s) exit the vehicle.
-Children need to be ready to exit the vehicle, with their backpack and lunch bag ready when you pull into the parking lot.
-Students must have their mask on when exiting the vehicle.
-All students will have their temperatures checked and will sanitize their hands upon entry.
-We ask that students remain an airplane arms length away from others.
BUS RIDERS
-Students riding the bus will have an assigned seat the entire year.
-Students must wear their mask on the bus.
-Students will have their temps taken prior to entering the building.
-Students will sanitize their hands prior to entering the building.
-Students must wear their lanyards and staff will ensure there is a parent signature on the card inside the lanyard.
As students walk in the building, we will have extra adults on hand to guide the kids into their classrooms. All students will walk directly in their classrooms to their desks. We will not be serving breakfast. Please refer to Mrs. Johansen's email on 9/25 about new breakfast procedures.
DISMISSAL
-Students will begin dismissing at a staggered time to ensure social distancing.
-Students will load buses and sit in their assigned seats.
-Students that walk home or ride their bikes will be dismissed at 3:25.
-Parents will pull their cars up in the car line, and remain in their vehicle.
-Once students are safely loaded into the car, parents may pull-out of the car line safely.
-We realize that the car line moves slowly, but the reason for this is student safety. Please do not park your car and walk between the cars to pick-up your child. We appreciate your patience as we work through this system.
-Please make sure you've communicated the dismissal plan to your child's teacher.
-If you are participating in car pick-up, please put a sign in your window so that we can identify which child you are picking up. As we have more students in car pick-up this year, we have the students wait in the gym until their car is visible. We will radio into the gym and send students out as we see the names written on the pages in the car. The signs in the car window will help expedite our process.
If you have children that overlap with other grades pick one drop off/pick up location. We do not recommend that parents park their cars and walk their children to the school. If you must do this you need to wear a mask and please swiftly walk your child to the paw prints and continue to walk to your car.
AM Kindergartner Car Riders will drop off at Door 8 and pick up at Door 2.
PM Kindergartners Car Riders will be dropped off at Door 2 and picked up at Door 8.
SAFE AND SECURE IN OUR “NEW NORMAL”: COVID-19 Informed Bus Protocols in District 15
District 15 put a video out about bus procedures that provides great information for parents. That video is linked HERE.
What’s new:
All buses are deep-cleaned nightly, with the same antiviral used inside the school buildings.
All touch surfaces on the buses are spot sanitized after each route, with the same antiviral used in the school buildings.
Driver and all bus riders MUST BE MASKED for the duration of the bus ride.
Rules for optimal airflow in the buses have been put in place.
Temperatures will be taken enroute, where possible, or at school before entering the building.
Bus capacity has been reduced to <45 passengers per bus, more stringent than state recommendations.
Seats have been assigned based on stop order (first students to board, walk all the way to the back) to minimize cross traffic and to maintain social distancing.
Siblings or members from the same household will be assigned to sit together on the bus.
Assigned seats will be strictly enforced by the driver.
Eating/drinking on the bus is PROHIBITED.
How students are expected to ride:
On the way to school:
Know your pickup time and route number.
WEAR YOUR MASK: if a student is at the stop without a mask, a disposable mask will be provided and school contacted with student’s name.
Be at your pickup location 5 minutes ahead of time.
At large stops: line up in grade order, big kids first, siblings together.
Wait until the bus stops before approaching the door.
Board quickly and quietly.
Go immediately to your assigned seat.
Keep your backpack on your lap.
Stay in your seat, out of the aisle.
NO EATING OR DRINKING ON THE BUS.
Temperatures will be taken enroute, where possible, or at school before entering the building.
At school, stay seated until the driver dismisses you.

Meal Delivery Schedule-All Children Eat Free
Meal Delivery Schedule-All Children Eat Free
On August 31, 2020, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that all school meals for children will be free through December 2020. Because of this announcement, school meals will no longer be charged to a student’s account. All meals will be free to any child under the age of 18, regardless of ability to pay. Children do not need to be present for a parent to pick-up a meal.
Meals are delivered to select locations Monday-Friday.
We know that many of our students are dependent on school meals for nourishment, and in the interest of ensuring this need continues to be met while District 15 schools are closed due to COVID19, we have established a schedule for food distribution.
District 15 will deliver food every day, Monday-Friday, through December 2020.
- Lunch and breakfast for the following day will be offered daily.
- Menus and Meal Distribution Locations can be found HERE.
Instructions for picking up food are as follows:
- In every location look for the District 15 bus for food delivery (*except where noted).
- Students do not need to be present in order for a parent to pick-up a meal.
For questions on the menu, please call 847-963-3928. For questions on transportation, please call 847-963-3909 or 3912
