Why We Can Drive Off Cliffs
Aka Newton's first law of motion and inertia
Newton's first law
An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. Basically unless something pushes or touches you, you will keep moving or you will keep not moving. This includes stuff like air resistance, Gravity, and annoying friends.
Inertia
Inertia is what keeps us going even when we want to stop, and also makes it hard to push something heavy, like a car. According to google, inertia is a property of matter by which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force. So if a car is driving and the driver puts on the brakes a but too late, the car will continue moving, even though it is being acted on by an outside force, in this case the brakes and the air.
