Science- Mrs. Madera
Physical Science
This week we will continue our Forces and Motion Unit. This is our most difficult unit this year and requires students to be reviewing each night. There is a great deal of real world application and students need to be able to demonstrate their understanding of the many relationships found in this unit. Students have been graphing and interpreting data on Speed, Velocity, and Acceleration.
This week we will be finishing up our focus on Speed, Velocity, and Acceleration calculations and graphs. Students will be turning in their Acceleration Labs and CSI Paintballs a Flyin’ activities tomorrow. In these graded assignments, students collected data, calculated speed/velocity and acceleration, analyzed the data, and graphed the data. They then wrote a conclusion focusing on the relationships between distance and time, speed and time, and acceleration and speed. We will be having a quiz on the notes, calculations, and graph interpretations tomorrow.
The remainder of this week will be spent introducing Net Force and Newton’s Three Laws of Motion. Students will be taking notes and creating a foldable from the Georgia Virtual School Forces Lesson and Forces & Motion PhET Interactive Lab. They will be calculating Net Force by understanding balanced and unbalanced forces. Students will then conduct 3 mini lab activities based on their Newton’s Laws of Motion slideshow and scavenger hunt which will be found on Google Classroom.
Tomorrow, students will be receiving a project that will take us through the remainder of the unit. This project will be due before spring break. This assignment will be introduced and directions will be provided in class tomorrow.
Please check google classroom for additional practice links and simulations. Review notes and vocabulary each night.

This week, Team 8-2 Mathematics will continue working in Unit 6: Linear Models and Tables. We are currently working on scatter plots and trend lines. There are many great resources that the students can take advantage of that will help them understand the concepts. By the end of this week, we will be solving real-world problems that involve scatter plots.
Team 8-2 Mathematics will also conduct research on bivariate data in order to create a scatter plot project. Students will conduct the project in groups of four over the next 2 weeks. More information on the project has been posted on Google Classrooms.
An EOG study guide has also been posted on Google Classrooms. The study guide is broken down into 6-week sections. I encourage each student to complete each section, by week and starting this week. I will post the answer key for this week on Friday. Please encourage your student to begin preparing for the EOG now.
