Parent Portal
There are 3 programs parents/guardians can use to follow up on their student(s) here at Barry. The first one is the Parent Portal. You can either download the app called Tyler Sis Student 360 (it has a graduation cap on it) or you can access it from a browser using this link. The username will be the email at which you receive communication from the district. You will be able to see your students overall grades and a breakdown of each grade. When you log in from the computer, you can also see your students' classes with the time schedule on it.

In Science, we have been working on the Engineering Process. How engineers define a problem, develop a solution, test a prototype, and then evaluate their solution. We created a container to catch a dropped golf ball from 10 feet.
This week students are working on the metric system. We have been working on how in ancient times, US Customary, and metric. Next week we will be continuing our lessons on the Metric System. Students can expect a quiz to be over the metric unit either Sept 12th or Sept 13th, depending on our schedule.

World Language
Happy Labor Day Weekend!
In World Languages, we have slowly introduced the students to the concept of learning a foreign language so they can get comfortable with learning a foreign language. The students first took a pre-test during the first week of school to determine how much ELA knowledge they possess. The 6th graders took the pre-test over ELA to let me know if I needed to go over basic grammar, parts of speech, tenses, and formal vs. informal language so they could understand how these concepts apply to other languages and make learning a new language easier. Overwhelmingly, your students performed well and showed that they retained a lot of ELA knowledge from 5th grade! We are currently learning about the world's geography and cultures and will continue learning those concepts for the next week or two. The first language we will cover will be Spanish later this month. The kids are so excited to learn a new language!
Attached below are the averages of the pre-test for those of you that have students in World Languages for 1st quarter titled insights

Reading 180
The 6th-Graders have slowly started the process of READ 180 by taking their baseline screener. I have emailed home their score and a brief idea of student’s goals for this year. We also have mastered filling out our Reading Logs and Weekly Logs as well as have our textbooks ready to go.
We will begin READ 180 rotations next week for our first grade of the quarter. I will be grading them on the following: assignments or activities we complete in small group, their ability to complete 60 minutes of software, behavior, and weekly log. Next week, I will be grading the same but adding a reading log. To learn more about this class, please click here for my syllabus.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email Mrs. Cook at cookeb@platteco.k12.mo.us.
PLTW - Flight & Space
