Cooking Up Fun!
Iron Chef Week 1
A Look Back
Students had so much fun presenting dishes to our judges and one another! They planned their meals, shopped the pantry and fridge for ingredients, executed their ideas, and plated their masterpieces. Then, they cleaned up--washing, drying and returning all cooking supplies, so everything would be ready for the next class!
Yes Mom and Dad, you heard it correctly! There were no dishes left on the table or half drank cups sitting on the counter! Everyone did their part!
Today's Secret Ingredient is...
The excitement was felt in the air! What was the theme for today? What secret ingredient did we need to work with? We used cucumbers in appetizers, had to make carrots work in a Mexican meal, and dreamed up a way to make pasta the star of the dish. On Thursday, it was potluck surprise. No themes! The pantry and fridge was ours, and we let our imaginations run wild!
The moment of truth! Chefs had to present and explain their dishes to our guest judges. Then, their creations were evaluated based upon the use of the secret ingredient, taste, presentation, creativity and cooperation in the kitchen.
A big thank you to our judges this week: Mrs. Gamez, Mrs. Pigott, Mrs. Vigorito, Mrs. Giampetro, Mrs. Raywood, Mrs. Tilton, Mrs. Buckley, and Mrs. Omiatek and her daughter. An extra thank you goes out to those staff members who did double and triple duty! And, we can't forget to thank and recognize MTES's fabulous custodial staff who helped get the kitchen ready and cleaned up our minor messes each evening.
Budding chefs were given positive feedback and constructive criticism to improve their future dishes. Scores were tallied and daily winners were announced. Then, points were accumulated throughout the week. Boy, the competition was tight! Only a few points separated our chefs each day.
Well Earned!
