THOUGHTS FROM A TEACHER.....
POSITIVE PATHS: Habits for Success
All of us need good habits to choose a path to positive success. Here are some hints from Jennifer Proe to assist you in your choices each day. We all have very different learning styles; however, these simple techniques will help you embed good habits into your daily journey. One of my favorite habits mentioned below advises us to write everything down. I know from experience that if I want to remember something, the act of writing it as well as digitally notating it is vital. Writing down notes, appointments, assignments, and due dates, all assist my brain to connect to the event or the item I need to remember. If you write it, you will know it. https://yourteenmag.com/teenager-school/teenager-middle-school/good-study-habits-for-teens
1. Make a schedule
Schedule the homework time. The time can fluctuate depending on sports and extracurricular activities, but the more consistent you can be, the better: On Mondays and Wednesdays, homework starts by 5 p.m. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, homework starts at 7 p.m., after soccer practice and dinner.
2. Keep materials organized
Encourage your teen to use a consistent organizational structure throughout the school year for each subject. English homework goes in the red folder; science assignments in the green binder.
3. Write down homework assignments
Teens should write down all of their assignments, regardless of whether the teacher posts the homework online or texts reminders each night. Studies have shown that the act of writing something down makes us more apt to remember it. Plus, it saves time hunting around online and avoids the “my teacher didn’t post the homework” excuse.
4. Have a place to study
Have a designated study space where your teen can work each day, even if it’s just a quieter corner. Stock the space with all the school supplies they’ll need. Many teens still enjoy shopping for and picking out their own school supplies. Make it a collaborative effort if possible.”

Let's Make a Zine
This class will be a combination of collage, bookmaking, & digital media! Each child will choose something important to them, whether it be a social issue or other topic of interest, and make their very own informational zine.
Day 1 will be a digital organization of the zine. They will format their pages & choose what images, colors, quotes, etc. they’d like to include in this small book. The rest of the week will focus on making a physical copy of their digital rough draft. We will use fine art papers, ink, multiple magazines and books for collage. The last day we will apply a paint sealant on the pages and bind them with different threads! This class is an introduction to using digital media in an art making practice while giving each child an opportunity to inform others about an issue that matters to them!

Elective Fair
Dear Parents and Students,
We are excited to announce that Arkansas Arts Academy (AAA) will host an Elective Fair on April 5th in which all AAA high school elective class options for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year will be on display from 1:40 pm to 4:00 pm. This event will provide all current 6th thru 11th-grade students with the opportunity to explore AAA high school arts programming and see performances, products and materials used in the classes. Students will spend designated time at the elective fair on April 5th with the 6th-grade students arriving at the upper campus at 8:30 in the morning and will depart at 9:20 to return to the EMS campus.
The AAA Elective Fair allows students to learn more about the many art offerings at the high school and explore the various music, dance, theater, culinary, fashion, and visual arts courses. Students will have the chance to meet with teachers and ask any questions they may have about the courses.
At the end of the Elective Fair, we provide all students with an interest survey form. This will allow students to express their interests and preferences in the various art courses offered at our school. This survey will also assist the high school in understanding the needs and interests of our students and how many potential sections we should offer each class. Our desire at AAA is to provide students with the arts offerings they find relevant and engaging.
Parents and new students can visit the elective fair from 4:30 - 6:30 pm. This extended time will allow parents to learn more about the arts programming offered at our high school and our Arts Pathways Program*. Parents can meet with teachers and current students and ask any questions they may have about the courses. We encourage all parents to attend the elective fair and take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the arts programming at AAA high school
*Arts Pathways Program
AAA is thrilled to announce the launch of our new Arts Pathways Program, which offers students the opportunity to pursue their passion for the arts through a focused and comprehensive course of study. The Arts Pathways Program is designed to provide students with a unique and engaging experience in the arts, allowing them to explore and develop their talents and interests through various specialized courses. Students can choose from four pathways: Music, Performing, Visual Arts, and Career and Technical Arts.
The Music Pathway offers instrumental and vocal music courses, music theory, and music technology. Students in this pathway can develop their skills in various musical genres and have the opportunity to participate in various musical ensembles, such as the jazz band and the rockhoppers.
The Performing arts pathway combines dance and theatre studies to offer a comprehensive curriculum in performing arts. This pathway provides opportunities to develop skills through various courses and productions. The dance program includes ballet, jazz, and modern dance studies, where students can develop their technique, choreography, and performance skills. Theatre studies include acting, improvisation, technical theatre, and costuming courses. Students can focus on one area or study dance and theatre.
The Visual Arts Pathway offers drawing, painting, sculpture, and graphic design courses. Students in this pathway can develop their skills in various media and have the opportunity to showcase their work in various art exhibitions and community events.
The Arts Pathways Program aims to provide students with a focused and comprehensive course of study in the arts. The program allows students to immerse themselves in their chosen field and develop a strong foundation in their area of interest. Students who complete the Arts Pathways Program are recognized with a special cord at graduation, indicating their achievement and dedication to their chosen field of study. The cord system serves to acknowledge and celebrate students' accomplishments and provides a tangible reminder of their time and commitment to the arts.
Parents and new students can visit the elective fair from 4:30 - 6:30 pm. This will provide an excellent opportunity for parents to learn more about the arts programming offered at our school and the Arts Pathways Program. The parent will be able to meet with teachers and current students in the arts programs and ask any questions they may have about the courses. We encourage all parents to attend the elective fair and take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the arts programming at our school.
We will set up a booth for incoming 7th-grade parents and students to learn more about the upper campus. The administration will be on-site to address your concerns and answer any questions.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.
