Newsletter Week 2
Thank you, thank you!
I very much enjoyed meeting you all. Please feel free to contact me any time if you have questions, or just want an update on progress. I am here wholeheartedly to ensure that you child receives the best education possible, and am very much looking forward to our year together!
Daily Five
This week in Daily 5 was a major success! We have been continuing to build our stamina in both Read to Self and Work on Writing. We made it all the way to 12 minutes in Read to Self, and the students are excited to be getting deeper into their books. We learned how to pick a "Good Fit" book, and we know that practicing reading and writing every day makes us better readers and writers!
Next week I will begin conferencing with each of the students to find out exactly where their strengths are, and what we may need to work on.
Math
Math has been a blast. We have learned many games to practice our math fluency, like Bunny Hop (number line work) and Top It (comparing numbers). The students have worked well in groups, showing respect and kindness to their classmates. We will be moving into probability next week, and learning how to organize data into a tally graph.
Science
This week we started talking about our body parts and their functions. Our project for this unit was a partner activity where the kids traced their bodies and labeled all the parts. This tested both their knowledge of body parts as well as their ability to sound out unfamiliar words in context. They blew me away! Look for the bodies in the hallway as we finish them up next week!
**Don't Forget!
MAP testing will run from August 28- September 13
Make sure your child gets a good night's rest and eats a healthy breakfast so they can do their best!
