New Student Skills Report
As simple as 1, 2, 3, 4 (and 0.5)
New Report Makes Understanding Your Child’s Performance Much Easier
We have new elementary progress reports! The new report is called the Student Skills Report. With the new report, it's easier to see the skills your child has learned and can perform.
You’ll notice the grading difference in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math on your student’s skills report this January.
Instead of letter grades or terms like “E, S, N”, we’ve made it as simple as a scale of 0.5 to 4. This scale tells you how your child performs certain skills and where they can improve with the help of their teacher.
Why is this better?
The new report tells you exactly what skills are being taught and how well your child is performing them.
The new report gives specific feedback to parents and students on their student’s performance. Teachers also get feedback on how they can better support their students in specific skill sets.
The new report allows you and your child to track their progress over the school year.
What will the new student skills report look like?
The new skills report has a similar layout to the old report cards, except it will use the 0.5 through four grading scale. Rather than overall grades for a subject, individual skills will be listed. The number assigned to each skill is a reflection of how well your child has mastered that material so far. With this scale, a 3 represents mastery of that skill.
Here’s the new grading scale:
What if there isn’t a 0.5, 1, 2, 3, or 4 in one of the report areas?
That’s okay! Since this is a pilot program, some subject areas may still use the old grading system but will shift to the new format soon. Teachers may use the comment box to give more information on what the current scores mean.
Where do student skills reports go from here?
Over time, we will be adding additional subjects when they are ready to be rolled out to the student skills report. Currently, the new skill-grading is only being used for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math.
