Term 2 Week 1 2019
Nau mai Haere mai Welcome ~ Sarah Morris, Principal
Welcome Back
Welcome back. I hope you all found some time to relax over the Easter break. I have heard about many exciting adventures from our children as well as cleaning out bedrooms and helping round the house which is great to hear!
We have an action packed start of the term with winter sports commencing and mountain adventures for our senior hubs. Student Led Conference information will come out early next week. There will be an online system to book for either Monday 20 or Wednesday 22 May. This is a very positive way for your child to share their learning with you. Please make sure you have also signed up for seesaw to allow you to view and comment on your child’s learning.
Learning About Different Cultures
I can say we had the best meeting on Wednesday afternoon. Our staff had the privilege of having some of our parents, Madiha and Omar Siddiqui and Saba Chaudhry, share with us about what it means to be a Muslim. The shared stories, laughter and feeling of curiosity and care in the room was amazing. It was definitely another proud moment, I am quite overwhelmed regularly at Frankley School, that we have a staff and wider community who are so open, dedicated and want to do the very best for our learners and extended families. We learnt a lot about Ramadan, what life is like in Pakistan, aspects of the Muslim faith and we listened to one of their children proudly talk about fasting and expectations for different ages. We love our families sharing and we will continue reaching out to learn more about the diversity in our community, and how we can then share this learning with everyone.

Teacher Only Day
On Monday 27 May Frankley School will be closed due to a teacher only day. The teaching staff will be working with Bek Galloway. Bek is supporting our literacy development across our hubs. She has already spent 2 days observing our hubs and gathering student voice to help us set goals. She will then return later on in term 2 and 3 to continue working closely with our staff. This is our one and only teacher only day planned for 2019. Thank you for your support.
Paid Union Meetings
There are two paid union meetings for teachers next week on the afternoon of the 7th and 8th of May. Frankley School will remain open and the children will stay in their collaborative hub with one of their teachers.
School Board of Trustees' Election 2019
Nominations for the election of parent representatives to the board of trustees for Frankley School are coming up in May. You can nominate another person to stand as a candidate, or you can nominate yourself. Forms will come out that have to be signed by both parties. This is a great way to govern the school and to contribute to our community. Please contact Robyn in the office as she will happily pass on contact numbers from current board members who can talk about the role and responsibilities of being a board member. The election will be advertised this weekend in the newspaper and nomination forms and a notice calling for nominations will be delivered to all eligible voters in the near future. Please contact Robyn in the office if your contact details have changed. Many thanks.
Whakangahau Friday 10 May
Te Kākano will be hosting a Whakangahau at 2.15pm on Friday May 10. The Frankley community are warmly invited to attend in the hall.

Tissues
As the cold weather sets in and the noses begin to run we would really appreciate it if each child could please bring in a box of tissues to their hub. These will then be used across the terms.

Devon Intermediate
Celia Lashlie was such a knowledgeable woman who inspired many educators. Devon has been lucky enough to secure the movie ‘Celia’ as a fundraiser at the Len Lye Cinema Centre on Saturday 11th May, 2.30pm – 5pm. We also have a guest speaker who can provide some insightful anecdotes of Celia following the film. Tickets can be purchased from our school office between 8.30 am and 4 pm Monday to Friday up until term break. Then again from beginning of Term 2. With only 55 tickets available, you will have to be quick.
