Art therapy for Santa Fe Teachers
Art therapy Response Team Director Visits from NYC & Newtown
Art therapy for Teachers
The primary focus of this professional group is to give you, the teachers, an opportunity to experience Art therapy, learn about yourself, and your own responses to the school tragedy. Nicole P. Willcox ATR-BC, LCAT, the directing Art therapist will help you locate and define your own internal sense of safety. You will leave with a set of personal symbols to build upon and strengthen as you move through the school year.
Nicole's work as the Founding Director of the Emerald Sketch is rooted in first response directing Child therapy services for the Sandy Hook School community immediately following the school shooting in Newtown, CT. She will briefly provide educational information regarding the symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder, how Creative Arts therapy works to heal trauma, and how to access local Art therapy.

"The Safety Nest"
Following the initial one hour Art therapy experience, all participants that are able to stay for the second hour will be given the opportunity to dive deeper. Looking more closely at your role as a teacher, or professional support staff, Nicole will transition the focus to your classroom settings and facilitate tasks that inspire a sense of safety in your daily routine. This portion of the group will enrich your tool box with creative tasks to encourage a sense of safety and social connectivity among your students.
She will encourage a "nesting process" that allows you to redefine yourselves as teachers, choosing some aspects to stay the same, and others to reframe.
