Daylight Saving Time-November 4th
Please remember to set your clock back and extra hour. No one will grumble about an extra hour of sleep. This change will make a difference with our students who walk to school in the mornings-more light in the morning. Please use the time change to check the batteries on smoke detectors and CO2 detectors in your home.
Election Day -November 6th
We will discussing voting and election day. If you have not voted please go and vote. You can make your children part of the process too. Remind them you are being a good citizen by doing your civic duty. If you are really brave take your child with you to vote. What children see their parents do they will do later also. Voting is a key right we have and we should show our children that we exercise our rights.Read Across ICE- November 8th

Sight Words-We will have a new list of sight words coming home on Monday. The words are : have, little, be, then, down. We will test on FRIDAY. Please review last weeks words.
Word Their Way- please do not have your child glue word or picture items to their sorting mats until Thursday. They need to be moving the pieces around. Students are bring sorts back with pictures glued to them on Tuesday. This makes us sad. They are practicing moving the pictures or words over and over again. They do need to have a sort set for home. They will have another one for school. On test day the spelling teacher will provide a 3rd sort set.
In our guided reading groups, they are working on various skills-rhyming, initial sounds, final sounds, syllable counts, adjectives and sight words. Each reading group is different and supports what the students are learning in class. PLEASE SEND READING MATERIALS DAILY.

We will be starting a new unit this next week-we will be extending our knowledge of addition and subtraction. We will be applying our understanding of Base 10 relationships to develop various strategies and methods for whole number computation. We will be adding and subtracting number up to 20. We are looking for our students to demonstrate the ability to determine efficient ways of solving these problems- drawings, number lines, 10-frames, using a 100's chart, using repeating addition and subtraction.
Science - We will be learning about forces and movement. The vocabulary on this unit is fun and exciting. We will be demonstrating, recording, and describing the ways objects move. Scholastic Book Fair November 12th-16th
Cold and Flu season is HERE!
Your child’s health is of great importance. It is that time of year when colds, flu and viruses run wild in schools, churches, and other public places. We will take every precaution to have a healthy and safe environment. Please consider getting a flu shot for yourself and your child. Having the flu is not any fun and can be life threatening for young children.
We would like you to consider keeping your child home if they have fever, diarrhea and vomiting. It is requested that students be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school. Please don't give your child a fever reducer and send them to school. Our bodies create a fever to fight viruses and to give us a warning that we are sick. When you send a child to school sick you will be impacting 20 plus families in addition to the teachers and their families. Teachers don't like missing days of school due to illness.
If your child becomes ill while at school, we will take them to the school nurse. The nurse will evaluate your child and contact you to let you know if you need to pick your child up. Please keep in mind the only person on campus that can give any medication is our school nurse.
Weather and Clothing
Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. If you send sweaters or jackets, please make sure you have written your child’s name on the tag or in the article of clothing. We are still planning on going outside unless it is raining or snowing.
