School Days at the Renaissance Faire

Thursday, Oct. 6th, 9am-3pm

2775 Lebanon Road

Manheim, PA

Cost: $14 per person...**Payment must be received prior to the event**. NO payments will be received on the day of the Faire**. Please make checks/money order out to FSC, Heidi Lightner and submit payment to : 111 Walnut Street, Williamstown, PA 17098.

**Please RSVP no later than Monday, September 26th 2016 and payment must be received by Friday, September 30th 2016 . sign in, receive name tags & wrist bands,receive maps/schedule, hear announcements. I will NOT take payment on the day of the event.

Lunch: you may either purchase lunch at the Faire or bring a bagged lunch. There will be a lunch tent for those who wish to bring their lunch and store it in a cooler.

Purpose: Educational and Social

Learning Objectives: Students who choose to participate in the creative writing contest will demonstrate their understanding of the Renaissance period and its relevance in history. Story will include at least TWO CHARACTERS from the 2015 Faire where:

_____ Story shows knowledge and understanding of characters

_____ Story is historically connected to time frame of the Renaissance Faire.

If using Elizabethan vocabulary and phrasing, be sure you have used them correctly. (Refer to the “Shakespeare Language” (pg. 11) section of the guide)

_____ Use a spell-checker or dictionary to check spelling

_____ Check your entry for proper use of punctuation and grammar

_____ Read the story to someone to check that your writing makes sense, is organized, the relationships between characters are local, and actions are clear

_____ Give your entry a title that relates well to your story

Students will enhance their knowledge of the Renaissance period through lively interaction with the actors who will portray real characters in history (Shakespeare, Queen Elizabeth etc). Students will learn about the day to day lives of the people. Encounter Hundreds of colorfully costumed characters. Witness handcrafted demonstrations. Sing a Faire Song for the Queen. Become pawns in the Human Chess Match. OLS Hours: 180 minutes of history and 180 minutes of English/language arts

8:15-9:00am--arrival, sign in, obtain wrist band/name tags and receive maps/schedule.

9:00am --Gates open!!

3:00pm--closing ceremonies/ Joust!!!
