Principal's Office

Hello, all!

Here is our Roadrunner Weekly for the week of August 19th through August 23rd. Welcome back, everyone! We are very excited to be getting our 2019-20 school year underway! If you were able to attend "Back to School Night" and hear my presentation, you know we have a lot of new and exciting things happening this year (The slides are attached below if you'd like to review them). Highlights of our new Roadrunner BEEP Rules and AVID program can be found below. Speaking of school rules, we would like to make sure everyone reviews the Parent & Student Handbook linked here. Please return a signed copy of this Roadrunner Pledge with your student.

As the year begins, we wanted to remind everyone to please put your child's first and last name on any sweatshirts, coats, lunch boxes/bags, water bottles, etc., that they bring to school. Sadly, we end up having to donate lots of clothes and lunch items that go unclaimed every year. Please help us preserve your hard earned dollars by putting names on your student's belongings.

Also, as you can see from the pictures above, our new play structure is finally going up! The poles should be in by Monday, and we are hoping to gather a crew of folks Saturday, August 24th to complete the assembly. If you are a contractor or have those type of skills, please plan to join us next Saturday. Once we know exactly how many people we will need, we'll send out a volunteer sign-up sheet.

Lastly, i-Ready is an important at home skill-building tool which is proven to help students build key skills in math and ELA , so please encourage your child to continue using it for 45 minutes or more per subject, per week to stay sharp on his or her math and ELA skills.

Have a great week!

Mr. Cubias

Our New Roadrunner BEEP Rules!

We are proud to introduce our new school Roadrunner BEEP rules. BEEP is an acronym for Be Safe, Exercise Responsibility, Engage in Learning, and Practice Kindness. We want to reinforce the behaviors we want the kids to demonstrate by focusing on the positives, so be on the lookout for our new Roadrunner Cards which our kids will be able to use like currency in our soon to open Roadrunner Store! To learn more about PBIS and our new BEEP rules, click on this link to go to our school website. I'll be updating and adding more info throughout the year.

AVID About Learning!!

Also new this year is the addition of AVID to our school instructional program. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, and it focuses on giving the students the skills and growth mindset (click here to learn more) necessary to prepare them for college and life. The purchasing of school materials this year for your students is a part of the AVID program as we strive to help our kids build organization skills. We sent nine teachers to the Summer Institute this past July, and we plan to get the rest of our teachers trained in the next couple of years as we work to implement AVID principles school-wide. To help our kids begin to see college as a real possibility for their future, we will begin taking grade-level trips to colleges this year. Our plan is to have 2nd grade visit Sierra Jr. College; 3rd grade visit William Jessup; 4th grade visit Sacramento State; and 5th grade visit UC Davis. Click this link to learn more about AVID.

FSS Parent Information Night - Thursday, September 12th

Begin a parent in this day and age is not easy. We fully support the belief that it takes a village to raise our children. To support that process, we'll be hosting an informational night for parents that will address many of the challenges we all face in raising our children and offer some ideas, suggestions, and supports! A more detailed schedule will be coming soon, but here is an overview of the evening's offerings:

- Rebecca Teal (Curriculum Associates) - Facts About iReady; Supporting Students' Use of iReady; and/or Accessing the Ready Classroom Math Student Toolbox-

- Alexandra Wride/Cecilia Sanchez (Tobacco Prevention Program) - Vaping (English & Spanish)

- Steve Krueger (Lincoln PD) - Social Media and Internet Safety

- Mike Lombardo (PCOE) - Accessing Placer County Network of Care (English & Spanish)

- Jeremiah Aja (Wellness Together) - Supporting Student Learning at Home

- Debbie Dettner (Horace Mann) - Strategies for Financial Success and Planning for College

- Ellie Martinez (WPUSD FSS Psychologist) - Introduction and Overview of Love & Logic (with the hope for a full parent parent training at some point during the school year)
