The Mata Memo
August 12, 2020
Principal's Message
Dear Mata families,
We are nearing the start of our 2020/2021 school year, and I hope that you all are staying safe and enjoying time with family and friends.
This memo comes with sharing some updated information to prepare you all for the upcoming school year.
Sept. 8 is the first day of school. At this time, Dallas ISD currently plans to offer both virtual and face-to-face learning when school starts. Dallas ISD has developed a comprehensive reentry guide and procedures to keep families informed and ensure the safety of students and campus staff amid the continuing challenge of COVID-19. Go here to visit the Dallas ISD Reentry Page
Around August 24th, please be on the lookout for a survey asking how you would like your student to return to receive instruction (Face to Face or distant learning). This survey provides us with your decision for the start of the 20/21 school year.
Please note our new school hours will be from 7:45-3:15 PM.
Mark your calendar, August 28th, for technology distribution, please see the information below.
Mark your calendar, September 3rd, for Meet the Teacher (Conducted remotely- you will be notified your child's homeroom teacher by this day.)
We are excited to begin our new year with you all in whatever capacity. We miss you all and your students. We look forward to connecting with you all very soon!
Enjoy the rest of your summer vacation!
Tomeka Williams

Registration and Enrollment
New Students: We are thrilled to have your child join Eduardo Mata Montessori for the 2020-2021 school year! Enrollment for new students will be held 100% online. You may have seen or received information related to creating a Parent Portal or PowerSchool account for enrollment purposes. As the students are not currently active in our system, this portal will not be available to you just yet. Instead, we do have an external site available for all incoming new students. Please follow the steps below to create an account there and complete the enrollment forms.
- Right click here and select “Open Hyperlink” to be redirected to the site
- Select the “Create Account” on the right
- Complete the first page with your name and desired account details
- The second will allow you to add the student
Once you have successfully created the account, the link for “2020-2021 New Student Enrollment” will become available. Keep in mind, when entering your address your home campus will likely populate as the child’s school. This is normal. Our office will change the campus once the forms have been submitted!
Returning Students:
*Note: if the student completed the 2019-2020 school year with Dallas ISD, please utilize your parent portal account at https://dallasisd.powerschool.com/public/home.html
and select the option “2020-2021 Returning Student Enrollment” even if they will be new to this specific campus*
Should you need assistance at any point throughout this process, the Office of Centralized Enrollment and Magnet Programs can be reached via telephone at 972-925-5560 or online at Dallasisd.org/ONE Monday-Thursday 7AM- 6PM. Beginning August 15th you may call Ms. Leija at 972-74-7504.

Mata's Destination Imagination Team Wins Again!!
Mata's 5th Grade Destination Imagination team called "The Board of Directors" participated in the all-virtual Global Finals 2020 Summer of Creativity event. The team competed against over 200 other teams from around the world in their grade division. Led by Mata teacher Patti Osborne, the team placed 4th in one of their Instant Challenges. Their 3-minute video entitled "The Underwater Guac Chase" was recognized during the July 16th Destination Imagination awards ceremony. Congratulations to team members Zarley Aigen, Brooke Cassity, Lena Golden, Judith Guthrie, Mia Kristof, Julio Leyva, and Elliana Mitchell!
Highlighting our Mata Teachers!
Ms. Manske and Ms. Osborne were on KERA/PBS this summer where they participated in the Summer Bridge to Success! This program was a summer project to help students with math during the covid pandemic. They enjoyed making these videos very much. It was exciting to reach students all over the metroplex!
