Bulldog Bulletin
May 25, 2017 End of School Year
Principal's Message
Dear Bulldog Families,
As I stood welcoming students to school this week, I was reminded that I must have one of the best jobs. Your children arrive at school each day, even on day number 180, smiling, excited, and full of wonder. Friendships are evident as students engage in conversation socially and academically when working with partners or in groups. Every day students of all ages engage in conversation with me about their learning. I hope that you too have heard about and witnessed your student’s engagement in the learning process and growth throughout the year.
As individual teachers and grade levels, we have taken time in the past week-and-a-half to celebrate the growth and learning that has occurred. Teachers and support staff reflected upon both successes and areas for continued growth. This reflection allows us to adjust our instruction to best support our students next year. I encourage you to also take some time to reflect upon and celebrate your student’s growth socially and academically this year. You will be receiving NWEA assessment information regarding your student via email within the next few days. This is an adaptive assessment that allows us to see how students compare to other students (who start at the same scaled or RIT score) across the United States who take this same test. It is important not only to look at growth but also to understand the grade-level norms. Do not be alarmed if your student did not meet his/her goal; instead, I encourage you to speak with the teacher if you have questions. Some of our students beginning-of-the-year score was a year ahead of the norm. Sometimes that makes it difficult to grow the projected number of points (due to the advanced content). It is also important to remember that this score is only one piece of data, and it alone does not define the year’s progress. Please also view your student’s grades through Skyward Family Access. Grades will be available today after 5:00pm.
As we wrap up our year and plan for next year, we want to send a HUGE THANK YOU to our families for your constant support throughout the year. We are looking forward to the upcoming school year and some stretching and growing that will occur: incorporation of new resources for Readers’ Workshop, adoption and use of a new math textbook series, Professional Learning Community work, and continued focus on our HSE21 Best Practice Model. Hamilton Southeastern is hosting another action-packed Launching Inquiry professional development symposium on June 8th and 9th. NBE has many staff members attending this conference and a few are even presenting! Our Bulldog teaching team is ready to continue their learning journey this summer…and also get some well-deserved rest.
On behalf of the entire Bulldog staff, have a HAPPY, SAFE, and RESTFUL summer. As always, thank you for partnering with us in education!
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin
