WELCOME, 2020!
Bruin Press January 7, 2020 Edition
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Happy New Year and Welcome Back!
I hope you had a wonderful holiday break, enjoyed the company of loved ones and caught up on some much needed rest. The teachers are excited to be back and are ready to greet their students on Tuesday. A huge shout out to the SBS families that provided lunch for the faculty and staff (as well as teachers from St. Cecilia) during our conference today on Building Instructional Coherence. Thank you for taking such great care of us - the meal was much appreciated.
I want to take this time to share some news. Sister Angeles will not be returning this semester. This was not an easy decision for Sister Angeles, but a necessary one, as she needs to take some time for her health. She is going home to Argentina for a respite and will spend some time with her family. Sister Angeles has been an integral part of our school community and will be greatly missed. We are thankful for the love and dedication she has shown our students, families, faculty and staff. Please keep Sister Angeles in your prayers as I know she will keep us in hers.
Sister Maria Filotea will step into the position of 6th grade homeroom teacher and middle school religion teacher. Sr. Maria Filotea was born and raised in New York City. She has a background in media and communication, and entered Religious Life in 2009. Throughout her religious life she has had ample experience in youth ministry and faith formation. She has a dynamic personality and is passionate about sharing the faith.
Kaitlin Potter-Grisham has been hired as a long term substitute to teach middle school history, electives and specials. Ms. Potter-Grisham is a graduate of Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. She is also a graduate of the Bush School with a Certificate in Nonprofit Management. Ms. Potter-Grisham attended St. Pius and is a graduate of Bishop Lynch High School. She is fluent in French, currently serves as the Director, Treasurer and Social Media Manager for Camp Camilla (a camp in Northern Ireland) and just returned from her honeymoon. She brings a wealth of talent to our middle school team. Please welcome Ms. Potter-Grisham to St. Bernard.
We are excited for all the possibilities the new year brings and grateful for the many blessings showered upon our school community. January brings SBS basketball, Family Fun Night, the Middle School Dance, Open House and Catholic Schools Week, so keep tuning in to the Bruin Press for the latest in SBS news!
In Christ,
Laurie Senecal
