Dear Mason Families,
Dear Mason Families,
Happy Monday! My hope is that everyone had a wonderful Spring Break and is adjusting well to our new norm as a society. While our buildings will remain closed for the remainder of the school year, learning will and must continue. Learning will look different for our students simply because it is extremely difficult to create a multifaceted educational process in the comfort of your home. While traditional school methods may not be present in your home like they would at Mason, don’t underestimate the critical thinking, conflict resolution and character education skills that your child is learning at this time. These are all skills that we teach at Mason on a daily basis as well.
Please know that:
Learning hasn't stopped- Everyday is a new experience for our students. They are learning how to deal with adversity and disappointment at this very moment. They are learning this from watching how we, as adults, handle this situation. This is truly an opportunity for us (teachers and adults at home) to help our learners by thinking outside of the box and making learning fun!!
Learning at home will look different than learning at school- It is extremely hard to make our living rooms and basements into an elementary school. Do your best to find a schedule and routine that works best for your family. Don’t forget to make learning fun. Learning from a textbook or worksheet isn’t the only learning that should be taking place at this time. Students can learn while taking a nature walk in their backyard or a cooking lesson that involves fractions. Every minute of every day inside a school isn’t content driven and neither should your home learning environment.
Social and Emotional Needs of our learners and families will always come first- We will do whatever we can to make sure we continue to have a balanced approach to our educational plan that fosters learning and offers social and emotional support for our learners and families. We are all grieving something at this time and it is so important that we honor that and do our best to support one another.
You are Rocking It Out- Adults, you are rocking it out at home; cut yourself some slack! You are doing great and I have seen/heard so many great examples of how students are learning at home. If you need any support at all, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We got your back and thank you for having ours!
On behalf of the entire Mason Team, Thank you! Thank you for your patience, understanding, compassion, dedication, empathy and for partnering with us to continue to support your child at home. Together, we can create an excellent learning environment for our families.
Have a wonderful week,
Roy Bishop, Jr.
Principal
Remote Learning for the week of April 13th:
All teachers will be working on creating a new plan for learning based on the fact that our schools will be closed for the remainder of the year this week. You can expect those new learning plans to be sent to you by next Monday, April 20th. Until then, please have your child continue to complete their online learning outlined in the document below and the activities that individual teachers assign.
Mason Family Check In Survey:
Please complete the survey below so we can continue to design a plan that meets the needs of our learners. Thanks in advance for your patience will teachers take this week to plan instructional opportunities for our learners.

Science With Scarlett Virtual Assembly April 16th at 2pm on the Mason Facebook Page
Author Gary Abud, Jr. (a Mason parent) and illustrator Liz Craft, of the book Science With Scarlett, will be "visiting" Mason to do a virtual assembly on Facebook Live. This unique event will include a reading of their book, science experiments, a book talk, and Q&A with the audience—all done digitally! The book is all about a second grade scientist who does experiments with the reader exploring the science of color vision, and 15% of the proceeds are donated to a vision non-profit called Eversight to prevent blindness and restore sight for children and adults. And they'd like to invite you to check out their book at ScienceWithScarlett.com ahead of time and submit questions you'd like to ask during the event about science, vision, or book writing.
Please submit your question, student's name, and classroom teacher's name by clicking the link below, and our presenters will do their best to answer your questions during the assembly.
