Listening to "In the Hall of the Mountain King"

We spent time learning about this classic piece by Edvard Grieg. Originally written to accompany a children's tale about a curious boy's encounter with the dangerous mountain King (troll), we read a book by Allison Flannerry and acted out the story of Peer Gynt's adventures into the mountain. We also read rhythms (ta= one sound, ti-ti= two sounds, and rest=silence).

In the Hall of the Mountain King (Peer Gynt) by Edvard Grieg

We tried band and orchestra instruments in class! We had fun making a "joyful noise". Check out more pictures on the Joan Martin Music Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/JoanMartinElementaryMusic/

Our 1st Grade Concerts are in January!

No, your child does not have two concerts- we are splitting the classes into two sections to perform on two different days! This gives us a more intimate, personal concert experience and tends to be less intimidating for first time music students. Our concerts in first grade are INFORMANCES- a concert experience that invites the audience to participate and experience music class along with the students!

Our First Grade Concert/Informances are: Tuesday, January 24 (Miss Backe, Mrs. Tilford, and Mrs. Peeler's classes) at 6:00pm and Thursday, January 25 (Miss Jolliff and Mrs. Evans's classes) at 6:00pm

Help Us Get Enough Instruments for Everyone!

We are trying raise funds to purchase instruments for our classroom. Our goal is to have enough barred instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, metallophones) for an entire class of students- thanks to a recent grant from DonorsChoose.org, we are only 7 instruments away from this goal!

If you didn't get a chance to donate towards our last project, please consider donating towards our new one. You can donate $1 or as much as you are able- every little bit counts! Please consider sharing this link and help support music in OUR school!
