Week of September 24-28
WE ARE MOUNTAIN KIDS!
6th Grade FRED
Mrs. Phillips and our 6th-grade students had an amazing week last week at FRED (Feather River Outdoor Ed) camp. They hiked to the top of Spanish Peak where they were able to see much of Plumas County, including Indian Valley. During the week, they learned about the local landscape and wildlife. They went on a night hike, played Pioneers and Outlaws, performed skits, sang songs by the campfire, and did the Polar Bear Plunge! It was a week they will never forget and just the beginning of their outdoor adventures this year.
7th Grade Outdoor Education
Outdoor Education adventures continue in 7th grade with a 3-day trip beginning in Taylorsville. Mr. Farris and our students spent time learning about the food chain while having fun in the process! The first day saw the 7th graders to the top of Mount Hough, then for a dip in Crystal Lake, then finally back to camp for campfire songs. The next day they helped the Forest Service install beaver dams near Antelope Lake, followed by educational games about predator and prey. They were even able to camp out under the stars. The final day was all about wrapping up pre-installed track boxes and making food webs. It was an overall fun way to begin the middle school experience!
More Outdoor Core!
Mrs. Foy and Mrs. Kingdon took our 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students on a walking field trip to Wolf Creek last week.
IVES needs BOX TOPS!
Send your Box Tops in with students or drop them by the IVES office. The money we receive from the Box Tops goes right back into the classrooms! Thank you for your assistance!

Staff Feature
Our staff feature this week is Mrs. Shannan Phillips. Mrs. Phillips is joining the IVES staff this year as the 6th grade teacher. Mrs. Phillips and her family have lived in Plumas County for many years. Mrs. Phillips just completed FRED with her 6th grade class and really enjoyed spending time with her students. When asked how she feels about teaching at IVES, Mrs. Phillips stated, "Every day with these students is a gift." We are so grateful to welcome Mrs. Phillips to our IVES staff!
