Happy Fall!
Hello families & caregivers,
The beginning of the school year has been very busy with students learning about their school, classmates, teachers, and teams. Our students engaged in all their safety drills during the district safety week. Students practiced a fire drill, shelter in place/tornado drill, lockdown drill, and a bus evacuation drill. Our student body has engaged in SHIELD testing and are now getting used to the routine of the test. Each classroom also started visiting the library and students checked out books.
In the upcoming month, our students will begin their Creative Curriculum Tree Unit in preschool. Our Kindergarten students continue to learn their foundational skills within Math in Focus and Units of Study by Lucy Calkins. I encourage you to read to your child or engage in literacy on a daily basis. Students at every age should be engaging in reading outside of their school day.
Our first Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) meeting was Tuesday, September 28th at 7pm via zoom. I encourage parents & caregivers to become involved to support your child and our staff members throughout the school year. This organization plans events and fundraisers for students, families, and staff members. If you would like to help and attend meetings, please email our PTO directly at barringtonELCPTO@gmail.com.
Lastly, we will be celebrating Halloween & Fall on Friday, October 29th. Teachers will be sending out further information regarding this day. In order to support health and wellness we will not be providing treats to our students; and outside visitors will not be allowed into the building due to COVID mitigation. We are working collaboratively with our PTO to make this day special for our students.

Health Reminders
1. If your child is sick with covid symptoms, please keep all district 220 students at home and call our ELC School Nurse, Keri Personette, for further guidance.

2. Our district Health and Wellness Policy supports the state level effort to combat childhood obesity. In addition, we have students in our school with allergies that we need to keep safe. In support of this effort, we do not celebrate birthdays with treats. We recognize that birthdays are an important occasion in a child's life, and we do honor that. Teachers have special birthday traditions in their classroom to recognize a child’s birthday. Please do not bring in treats into the building as we will need to send them home with your student. Thank you for honoring this decision as we support the health and wellness for all our students.
