Howe's Happenings Week 34 2015-2016

German and Reading Acceleration

What did we do last week?

German 1 students chose to either walk the "black" carpet as a fashion model or record a description of a fashion model for our class fashion show. I enjoyed the in-class show and have also enjoyed putting together all the recordings and pictures. Students will get a chance to view the rest of the show this week. We wrapped up our clothing unit with the fashion show and a test. We are now learning about traditional German foods, eating out in Germany, and making plans. Students willing to try out a German recipe are invited to bring samples to class on May 25.

German 2 students planned a trip last week and also learned how to describe trips they have taken. This week, we are preparing for our travel test. The test is Friday, May 20. Next week, we will begin discussing our future plans.

Reading Acceleration students began working with claim and evidence in a text about animal partnerships. This week, we will continue to work with the animal partnership text, as well as continue our independent reading, study sessions, and evidence-based writing.

Thank you for coming to Parent Teacher Conferences!

i enjoyed meeting with those of you who could make it to Conferences on Tuesday night. If I promised to follow up on something, I believe you have heard back from me. If I have inadvertently overlooked something, please kindly remind me.

If you were unable to attend and would like to set up an appointment, please contact me.

A Quick Note About Missing Work

Spring is a busy time of year. Absences due to testing, sports, and field trips occur regularly.

Please remember that all missing work is temporarily entered in the gradebook as a zero. You should also see the "M" or missing code. In our standards-based classroom, late work is not penalized for any reason. I make my best effort to put work into the gradebook as soon as possible after it is turned in.

Please feel free to contact me any time you have a question.

Study in Germany

The DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) maintains a very informative page on studying in Germany. If your child is interested in studying abroad for a summer, a school year, or for college, you can check the site out here.
