East Edition

April 11 - April 15

Congratulations, Celebrations and Gratitudes

Thanks to our custodians, Elaine and Sarah, for their deep cleaning over Spring Break. Everything looks wonderful!

Long Term Sub in Library

Again, Brenda Hand is going to rescue us and act as our long-term sub to fill Jonathan's vacancy. She will officially start next Monday, April 18th, but will be here three days this week as well. Becky Fritz will sub on Monday and Wednesday of this week only. Brenda will be subbing on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Teach Tos This week

Please take time to identify the Teach-Tos that your students need to review and refine. A spring 2016 Teach-To document was shared with all classroom teachers on Monday morning. As in the past this school year. Any teacher that turns in their teach-to forms prior to the deadline will receive their choice of gift cards for local eateries. Deadline for classroom teachers is Friday, April 22nd.

Taking time to re-teach behavioral expectations keeps behavior positive, refreshes your expectations for each student and helps increase success. Doing Teach-Tos after a break, is a research-based process approach proven to reduce challenging behavior and increase engagement.

Here is the procedure for conducting Teach-Tos. Please be sure to use it exactly.

1 - Model: Teacher demonstrates full range of behaviors - positive, negative and almost-but not quite. ("I do") -- Do not allow students to model or practice anything but the exact behavioral expectations.

2 - Practice: Teacher and Students practice the positive behaviors. ("We do").

3 - Test: Students then practice the behavior on their own without coaching or guidance, while teachers observes. Re-teach if necessary and behavior is not demonstrated exactly as taught by all students. ("You do")

Food Service Worker Appreciation Day at East - Thursday

Please take a moment to thank our ladies that work in the cafeteria, both in the morning and at lunch time, on Thursday, April 14th. They work hard for little pay and are an essential part of our success at East. In their honor we will serve Carelli's lunch to them in the cafeteria at a decorated table. They will receive a small token of our appreciation for their dedication and passion to students and staff, as well as Sarah and another administrator will serve lunch to kid while they enjoy their lunch.

One more week of CMAS testing will resume the first week after Spring Break. 5th Graders will be tested in Science on Tues, Wed, & Thurs, April 12, 13 & 14. Breakfast will continue to be served to all 5th graders on testing days.

Please have your students be quiet and respectful as they pass by the office and the 5th grade classrooms. Look for signs indicating that testing is being conducted. Testing will be occurring between 8:45 am - 11:00 am.

Jen will be proctoring these tests and thus will not be available in the office during testing time. She will have a sub.

Library services will be available all days, as the 5th graders can take their tests on their iPads in the classrooms. Yay!

Spring MAPS Testing Schedule Begins Next Week

Below is the schedule for Spring MAPS testing that begins Monday, April 18th. All grades 1st (early MAPS) through 5th grade are required to take this test in the following order. MAPS completion deadline, including make-ups is May 6th. SLOs/MSLs and the evaluation process must be completed by May 12th. In the past we've had more time to complete these tests, but due to the early deadline for evaluations to be completed, we need to be on top of our deadline.

Computer lab time will be used for MAPS testing and the proctors will be the teachers. Remember that teachers need to be setting up and creating these testing groups for their students. Please let Sarah, Jen or Kristin know if you need instructions again on how to do this. Sarah will distribute the proctors manual and have one available in the computer lab for each testing session.

Make-Ups tests will be conducted throughout this short window, and completed prior to May 1st, by Brenda Hand, our long-term sub in the library. Please help her in anyway you can.
