First of all, a big thank you to Aaron's father for being our Watch Dog. We appreciate you coming and spending your day at OSE.
We had a super fun 101 Day of School! Complete with a real Dalmatian puppy visiting our classroom window.
We also got together with Mrs. Smith's 5th graders to form kindness buddies. We wrote letters and made Valentines for the USS Reagan Navy ship. We are planning our next project all ready. We are asking every child to send in a children's book. We will be wrapping them and sending them over to Lakeland Elementary to be handed out to a class on Feb 14, National Give a Book Day. I love the giving and the sharing and the caring! Please send the books in as soon as possible. One per student is all that is necessary, but you can send as many as you would like. New is preferable, but gently used with no marks or signs of previous ownership is ok too.
It is the time of year that we need you to make and bring in a Valentine Box with your child. Please be sure the opening of the box is large enough that a treat bag or card with a prize attached can fit in it.
I will send out a list of all the names in our class later next week. Please be sure your child prepares a Valentine for every student in our class.
Have a great weekend!
April McGhee
WHAT WE'VE BEEN LEARNING
Language Arts-We finished our cereal boxes, made a mini commercial on Chatter Pix and learned to send an email. We have now begun a research unit and are focusing on penguins as we learn the steps to good research.
Social Studies-We are doing a unit on geography. The kids learned that their are 7 continents and 4 oceans. We are trying to learn how the world goes from a continent to a country to a state to a city to a community to your home.
Science-We are looking at the patterns in the sky and learned more about moon phases, rotations and orbits, shadows and directions by using the sun.
