The Great Gatsby

Jay Gatsby American Dream
The American dream through the eyes of Jay Gatsby is to Have the Women of his dreams (Daisy Buchanan). Even tho Gatsby possesses a great amount of money and luxurious items and a big huge mansion many view to be the American Dream. However, He see’s Daisy Buchanan as the symbol that would top off his american dream making his dream real and fulfilled. In the chapter 4 page 63 while jordan baker and Nick Calloway talked Jordan said “Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay." Gatsby wanted to be close to daisy but yet she was so far. Mr. Gatsby Always threw big parties every weekend the wealthiest people always came. Everyone thinking he had everything hearing rumors about him not knowing said in chapter 4 page 63 by Jordan Baker “I think he half expected her to wander into one of his parties, some night” Gatsby always threw parties waiting for the one night daisy his lost love would come walking in. Gatsby knew he had everything but he still wanted Daisy. Everything he earned and became was for her his American Dream was built around Daisy and his love for her.
Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson American Dream
The vision of the american dream in a Harlem Renaissance poem can be different from a american dream we seek. I choose the poem Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson; in this poem it presents a man Richard Cory he is viewed as very wealthy having everything. Others would say in “he was rich - yes, richer than a king” line 9. Richard Cory would catch everyone's eyes when he went out downtown they viewed him superior “we thought that he was everything to make us wish that we were in his place” line 11 & 12. The people of the town viewed his lifestyle to be the american dream to live in success and prosperity of wealth. However, Richard Cory didn’t view it as the American Dream but instead “one calm summer night, went home and put a bullet through his head” line 15&16 this shows how even though he had everything everyone dreams of wanting. he viewed it as having nothing for he was still empty with the thing he wanted the most he saw no point in living a life luxurious life style without the thing that could make him the happiest and feel complete to possess his american dream he viewed.
Compare And Contrasting Jay Gatsby And Richard Cory
The American Dreams of Jay Gatsby And Richard Cory do not differ to far from Each other. Jay Gatsby American Dream was built around love and wealth, he Became more and more wealthy for his obsession around his love of his life Daisy. He had lost daisy after the war. However, he said “I'm going to fix everything just the way it was before,' he said, nodding determinedly. 'She'll see.” he wanted to build the riches to build her American Dream for her. The love of her would have completed her american dream and Gatsby's. However, Richard Cory doesn’t stray to far from Gatsby's American Dream. Richard Cory had all the wealth in the world many people looked up to him wanting to be as wealthy as him they would often say “he was rich - yes richer than a king” line 9. Richard Cory was very wealthy however he didn’t have what he wanted most wealth didn’t please him didn't complete his american dream so on summer day he went a kill himself. Jay Gatsby and Richard Cory are similar because Jay gatsby had all the riches but still wanted Daisy to complete his American Dream, same as Richard Cory he had all the wealth anyone would want but it still wasn’t enough to complete his american dream so he killed himself.
My American Dream
The American dream is always different through out people ranging from love to wealth. For many the ideal American Dream is to achieve great success and prosperity through dedication and hard work. My view of the American Dream is to be able to get a full education for the career of my dream and grow into the human i want to be through the successes of my career for myself and for the love of my life and live and grow into a life full of prosperity of wealth, love and successes. My american Dream is to go to A&M researching wildlife, fisheries, and ecology graduate move into Texas wildlife services in Texas state parks and marry the love of my life push her for her dream, have a family of two, grow more and more successful through work not for me but for us. Until having what you want can be at your fingertips instantly not having to work day and night for simple luxuries but fulfill the dream of wealth slowly moving up in social statuses. I pick that medium to convey my american dream because not only successes and wealth will convey my american dream but love and family will complete the American Dream i seek.
