From the Desk of Dr. Rodriguez
One awesome component of our STEM curriculum is our Learning Garden. The Learning Garden is an indoor, vertical garden that is used to teach students about environmental sustainability. It only uses 10% of the amount of water that an outdoor garden needs, and it comes with its own light source to mimic the sunlight plants need to thrive outdoors. There are a wide variety of seeds to choose from, including flowering plants, fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Students observe and participate in the entire life cycle of a garden, from planting to harvesting, and see first-hand how nature will always be an extremely important part of our modern, metropolitan lives.
Although our Learning Garden has taken a year off, we want to show you what we've done in the past and what will come back next year. Last year, students were hands-on participants during the entire process of growing our very own bok choy, bibb lettuce, arugula, lavender, and chard. From planting the seeds to monitoring the growth of the plants, making observations about differences and similarities between them to finally sampling them, students were fully immersed in the experience of urban harvesting and agricultural sustainability. It is these types of experiences that keep Riviera at the forefront of education and as trailblazers of the future.
On behalf of the Day School faculty and staff, Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful mothers of our Riviera family. We hope you enjoy your special day!
Sincerely,
Dr. Rodriguez

First Grade VIP for a day
Is there anything better than feeling like a VIP? Well, Ms. McKee's first graders can now say they know that feeling all too well! For the last few days of the year, one student will be crowned VIP of the Day and enjoy the treats that come along with being royalty. Included in this day of luxury are a special costume, school supplies, out-of-the-ordinary privileges, and desk decorations indicating that a VIP occupies that space. In case you're wondering just how awesome these last few days are going to be for our students, here are some pictures that will hopefully give you an idea!
