Student Tutorial Schedule for Q. 3

If a student doesn't already have a Zoom meeting with one of their teachers, we highly encourage them to attend one of our tutorials. Please click THIS LINK to view the tutorial schedule. Make sure to read the "Important Tutorial Information" section at the bottom!

Daily Attendance and Participation

At Level 2, students either come to campus once a week or have full distance learning. To reinforce the idea that school happens every day, teachers will now track roll and participation each day. Students are expected to interact with the curriculum for each class every day. Individual teachers will communicate with students on how they will be marking participation. Students and parents will have access to the attendance tab in the Student and Parent Portal in Infinite Campus starting on January 18.

We have also activated a feature in the Student Campus Portal where students can check-in with their teachers each day. Teachers may request students to complete this task each day. Directions on how to do this will be shared with students.

Please see the video below for an overview of the student portal and participation.

Mandatory Live Zooms

To complement the Daily Attendance and Participation change, teachers may now require students to attend live Zoom meetings:

  • either during, before, or after the regularly scheduled class period each day or on specific days.
  • to both distance-only and on-campus students.
Teachers will provide live Zoom expectations and anticipated schedules soon. The mandatory requirements will be communicated to students and parents/guardians via their syllabus or other course materials.

Additionally, teachers may award points for activities completed during these virtual class sessions.

Note: It is possible that not all your student's teachers will be doing this.

How many hours a week should I be working on school work?

This is a frequent question that we often hear from our students and parents. To help you better gauge your learning please see the time allocations below. Remember:

  • school is still 5 days a week.
  • students need to be engaged in virtual and/or in-person learning everyday.
  • 9th/10th classes- 7 hours a week per class x 3 classes = approximately 21 hours per week
  • 11th/12th classes and other classes - 10 hours a week per class x 3 classes = approximately 30 hours per week.

West Hills Key Club Service Activities

West Hills Key Club has been working hard to bring joy to our community and beyond. As a service organization, Key Club works with Santee Kiwanis to provide opportunities for students to give back to their community. Many of the annual service projects have been cancelled due to COVID-19 but our Key Club, guided by the President, Makenna Garcia (12th), have used their creativity to make the best out of our current situations. During the weekly Zoom meetings, Key club members painted rocks with positive messages and left them around the community, students have written letters to elderly in residential care facilities and made art for patients at Edgemoor hospital. Most recently Key Club hosted a drive for Edgemoor hospital collecting blankets, clothing and body wash for the residents. New club members are welcome to join anytime. We have more events planned for quarter 3 and would love for more students to join.
