Music Notes
Hello parents!
We’ve had a great spring in music class. All classes have been dancing!
PreK and Kindergarten students have been dancing and have had a blast! We learned nine different simple classroom dances. Learning to dance helps with coordination, steady beat skills and also socialization.
First through fifth grades have been square dancing! Square dancing is a fantastic steady beat activity, but it has many other non-musical benefits as well. Students have to work together as a team. Each member of the team has to pay attention to instructions or the team will fall apart! There are many left/right coordination aspects to square dancing, which is so good for developing brains. Also, the mental focus required to complete a complex square dance helps with listening skills in other subjects.
Next week, we will be starting a unit called The Music Olympics! Each class will be split into five groups, with each group representing a country. They will compete in music themed games that review concepts from throughout the school year.
Please let me know if you have any questions about music class!

4th/5th Field Day
On Monday, June 5 all 4th and 5th graders from the district will be going to Eagle Stadium to participate in a fun-filled Field Day!
If you ordered a shirt for your student they will be sent home the week before Field Day. Students will be eating lunch at the stadium so they should plan on bringing a sack lunch from home or ordering a sack lunch from food service. Students can also bring water bottles, but since there will be over 1000 students there, please make sure everything is labeled with their name and "Alward" on it. I'm excited for this amazing event and watching the students have a blast!
If you did not order a field day t-shirt, please have students wear a shirt in the following colors:
5th Grade Girls: Lime Green 4th Grade Girls: Orange
5th Grade Boys: Safety Yellow 4th Grade Boys: Red
