Burnette Books
March-April 2014
Welcome Spring!
April is National Poetry Month! I know April will be a busy month as we finish preparing for the CRCT, but if you'd like to come in for a poetry lesson, there are so many things we can do! Kindergarten and first grade, we can concentrate on rhyming words and simple poems to practice reading. Older grades can use poetry to tie in with the content area -biography poems, poems that help work on parts of speech, or poems that help us review history. Poetry is great for practicing fluency as well! My specials will move to the end of the day after Spring Break (1:30-3:45), so during the morning we could even work in some small groups. Send me an email if you are interested!
New Books!
We've received our first shipment of new books this month. This shipment was mostly fiction. The nonfiction books, many which were your selections, should be arriving by the end of March. We are so excited to share these new books with you and your students! Please keep the suggestions coming. I am keeping a running list of book requests from students and teachers.

Book Fair
We had one of the best book fairs ever in the history of Burnette! We earned enough money for furniture for the magazine reading area in the Media Center. We also earned bonus Scholastic dollars, enabling us to purchase more books for the Media Center! If you have any requests, let me know!
We had a lot of positive feedback on the new book fair layout. If you have any suggestions to help things run more smoothly next time, please let me know!
We will have one more book fair this year- a Summer Reading book fair! This will be a smaller event than our regular fairs, with books only- no fluff, no posters. Hopefully, this will give students a chance to pick up some books to jump start their summer reading.
